Del Rio mayoral election upheld despite challenge
Dora G. Alcala celebrated after 224th Judicial District Judge David Peeples ruled in her favor, ending the May 15 mayoral contest filed by former city council member Robert Garza. Alcala said the decision lifted a weight and expressed readiness to unite the community and her supporters for any future campaign.

Judge Denies Garza Challenge. Alcala Declared Del Rio Mayor
The court, after a two day trial with ninety-seven witnesses and multiple depositions, finds that in the May 15 2004 Del Rio mayoral election Dora Alcala should receive 2 074 votes and Robert Garza 2 071. Alcala is declared winner. Garza’s contest is denied. Final judgment signs by Judge David Peeples August 30 2004.
