Pope John Paul I Elected Spiritual Leader of Catholic Church
Cardinal Albino Luciani an Italian moderate was elected pope Saturday and took the name John Paul I. The 65 year old was chosen by 111 cardinals in a secret conclave in the Sistine Chapel and follows reformist policies of Paul VI and John XXIII. The election ended after a brief conclave that began Friday with two ballots in the morning session.
