GOP Seeks Proviso on Budget in Tax Cut Plan
In Washington Republicans push to tie the second phase of the tax cut to budget targets, while President Kennedy opposes such contingencies. Rep. Byrnes and Rep. Baker vow to renew the effort amid Kennedy’s warning that delays or conditions would reduce tax relief and raise deficits. The Ways and Means panel approved a roughly 11 billion net tax relief, with doubts about passage this year. Separate items note Kentucky reforms to aid recipients keeping homes and Louisville’s claim as the nation’s oldest municipal university, founded in 1798.
