The Del Rio Lulaoc Council plans to crown their queen on September six in Rio Cmeter. Three candidates are vying for the crown as LULAO area queens or representatives are invited. Susan McBee of Del Rio, representing the 70th legislative district, will be parade marshal for Sonora’s seventh annual Sulton County Days Friday at 5 p.m. and events continue Saturday.

Legal alien charged with alien smuggling
A 33 year old legally admitted alien remained in Val Verde County Jail after conviction for trying to smuggle eight illegal aliens to Chicago. Augustine Garcia Martinez, living in Chicago, got three months and a 500 dollar fine. He faces deportation and his van will be confiscated. Investigations show the group was detained near San Angelo early Monday and later handed to Mexican immigration officials. the driver charged with trafficking received 400 dollars for the voyage.
