County eyes slight tax rate drop for next year
Val Verde County Commissioners Court backed a proposed 46.6 cent per 100 valuation tax rate for Fiscal Year 2004-2005, lower than last year’s 46.9 cents, but officials warned most property owners may still pay higher bills due to rising property values. A public hearing is set for Aug 31, and the court also certified 2004 property tax rolls and debt collections. County Judge Mike L Fernandez urged relief from overall rising costs as other entities may raise their rates.
