Water damage delays start of classes at Wilmer-Hutchins HS
About 700 students at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas will not begin classes on schedule due to water damage and unsanitary conditions after June storms. Power has been out, roaches and mold reported, ceiling tiles fallen, and rain-soaked carpeting removed. Repairs may take a week or longer as moisture and lack of air conditioning persist. Board to hear final DRMS costs and SFMS plan

Mountain lion sightings stir Del Rio residents
Wildlife officials confirmed a generally average male cougar roamed near Covey Ridge in north Del Rio last month. Biologist Sylvestre Sorola and wildlife services district supervisor Mark Mapston note lions are common in the area, but the July sighting left no further tracks or meals.

Mountain lion sightings tied to Lake Amistad area
A Border Patrol officer reported a fresh kill along Union Pacific tracks near the brush by Governor's Landing and Amistad Dam area. Another fisherman said a cougar raced past the Diablo East boat ramp on Lake Amistad, with a bow hunter hearing a mountain lion scream in October 2002 near the recreation area.
