About 370 Laughlin Air Force Base civil service employees will receive wage increases totaling roughly 112000 dollars annually, effective August 25. Raises range 14 to 19 cents per hour for non supervisory personnel leaders and foremen, based on a June locality wage survey and aligned with Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Similar increases were announced for 17,000 Army and Air Force civil service workers nationwide, including Kelly AFB, totaling about 5.5 million dollars.

U S Steel also set Aug 16 as the effective date for its boosts covering hot and cold rolled steel and related products, excluding defense materials. further announcements were expected across the industry.
Green Berets conducted a two day helicopter raid to free 118 Montagnard men women and children held as slave labor by the Viet Cong for two years. The captives were ferried 200 miles to hospitals as fighters moved to north Vietnam. One baby was born just before rescue.
Preliminary construction work starts on the first of the large dam gates as engineers initiate the project. The effort aims to secure water flow control and begin infrastructure modernization for the reservoir system.

Washington (UPI) Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 77, spent a comfortable night at Walter Reed and his vital signs remained stable. Doctors said his recovery is unpredictable and guarded, with equal severity to the June 15 attack, and no heart transplant considered.
Val Verde County Library will add about six hundred new adult young adult and children’s titles. Librarian Bess Bradley says the fresh collection includes the best new reads and should draw back summer readers to the shelves.
