Treasury bills rise as auctions push yields higher

The Treasury sold 7.2 billion in three month bills at 7.3 percent and 7.2 billion in six month bills at 7.52 percent. Rates are the highest since May and understate actual returns at 7.54 percent and 7.93 percent respectively.

Secretary of Education William Bennett said the department will ask the IRS to withhold tax refunds for nearly 1 million student loan defaulters unless they begin repayment.
