Tortilla Factory Shutdown Averted in Mexico City Talks
Government officials yielded to pressure as talks in Mexico City began to avert a threatened nationwide shutdown of more than 40 000 tortilla factories over a proposed price increase. Leaders from the National Chamber of Small Tortilla Producers and the Tortilla Producers Industry moved to call off price hikes pending agreement with Secretary of Commerce Jorge de la Vega Dominguez.

In the Herald today's edition two transposed pantographs at Lan Air Force Base appeared under wrong captions. The bottom photo shows Class 78 08 and the top photo Class 78 07. An error was spotted on 6C after printing. A second error on page 2B in the women’s section misidentified a marriage. Leticia Fernandez was not married to Eduardo Figueroa, the groom was Eduardo Amezcua.

Funeral Rites Held for Harry Hornby Jr in Uvalde
Harry Hornby Jr founder and longtime editor publisher of the Uvalde Leader-News died at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. Funeral rites set for 3 p.m. at Rushing Estes Knowles Chapel with burial in Uvalde Cemetery. Hornby, a Uvalde native born January 15 1917, chaired the local newspaper and engaged in Texas public service including State Regents and civic awards. He married Kathryn Wallace in 1940 and served in the Marine Corps.
