U S Customs inspectors at Eagle Pass Port uncover two marijuana loads within three hours. In the first case at Bridge I around noon on April 5 a 1974 Ford crew cab driven by Santiago Flores Almanza 53 of Piedras Negras Mexico tested positive for drugs after canines and density meters flagged the quarter panels revealing 101 pounds valued at 101000 dollars. Flores Almanza was handed to local police for state drug charges. Earlier at Bridge I a brown 1985 Dodge Ram Charger driven by Guillermo Federico Zoebich 44 of Piedras Negras Mexico triggered a secondary inspection. Marijuana was found in the front quarter panels and atop the motor totaling 172 pounds valued at 172000 dollars. Zoebich was arrested on federal drug charges and jailed in Val Verde County awaiting a magistrate appearance in Del Rio.
Consumers plan a three day Gas Out to reduce fuel costs mirroring a 1999 one day protest. The grassroots effort urges avoidance of gasoline purchases Friday through Sunday and relies on circulating emails though some doubt its impact and recall of the date.
More than 20 Charro teams from Coahuila travel to Ciudad Acuña for the 33rd Congress of Charro Associations state convention hosted by Del Rio's Sister City. The event runs today through Sunday April 9 at Lienzo Charro El Campanario with daily competitions for the state title across multiple categories. Acuna’s Escaramuza team has held state titles and competed nationally. opening ceremonies start 10:30 a.m. Thursday with multiple associations competing through the day.

City Manager Florencio P Sauceda announced Del Rio has met its TexPool investment goals since October 1999, earning about 382 425 in six months and surpassing the 75 000 target. The council approved park development efforts with County Commissioner Jesus E Ortiz and an agreement to pursue a grant from the U S Department of Commerce and EDA to promote economic development in Del Rio.
