Warren K. Billings testified in Mooney’s habeas corpus bid denying he and Tom Mooney were framed. He accused Martin Swanson, a public utility special agent, of soliciting him to testify against Mooney four days before the 1916 Preparedness Day bombing. Billings said he refused and Swanson later urged him to aid Mooney or face punishment.
Dealers in Del Rio and border towns say eliminating duties and allowing 100 dollars of liquor to cross the Mexican border duty free will not reduce sales here. They argue Mexican saloons are largely American owned and prices will align, with profits shifting to American dealers who import into Mexico.
Austin September 27 The Railroad Commission issued its first order under the new law to prorate sour gas production. The order sets an allowable daily output of 360 million cubic feet for October.
Lon Allsup of Carthage accused the railroad commission of incompetency in oil conservation enforcement and said impeachment could follow a special investigating committee report. In Quito, Ecuador the army set up a dictatorship after President Antonio Pons resigned and Congress was dismissed. Federico Paez became chief of the regime as minister of public works.
The Roswell Chamber of Commerce advisory council meets Tuesday at 7 30 p m in the Roswell Hotel for its first session. Secretary Jas C Netts says L Rust chairs the council, organized last month with 48 members to meet quarterly as an advisory group to the board of directors.
About 259 workers went on strike in the Burkburnett oil field last week and 252 of them will be rehired without discrimination, as employers promise to restore jobs in the settlement reached today.
Satisfactory progress on the $18,360 state highway park on San Felipe Creek was reported Friday. Three teams, two trucks and 20 men are grading and drainage under A. L. Egan of Dallas with about 50 days remaining. Egan’s contract includes 0.5 mile roadside improvements. Ramsey's Austin Nursery will plant shrubs and trees starting mid November at a cost of $4,898. A crescent pond is being dug at the west end of the eight acre tract.
A northern wind sent temperatures plunging across Texas Friday morning with Amarillo reporting 42 degrees and North Texas lows near 30. The Weather Bureau forecast colder tonight and Saturday with no warm days expected until mid next week, signaling frost prospects in some cities. Snow was reported for northern cities as AP notes seasonal lows across the state.
City officials announce the start of a water main project from Pecan Street to Garden Parks pending WPA headquarters approval. E. F. Howard, city clerk, notes plans are finished and equipment is on hand awaiting labor provision by the government. Total cost set at 10,260 dollars.

In Houston on September 27, longshoremen announced plans to boycott Gulf ports vessels handled in New Orleans by nonunion labor after September 30. M. J. Dwyer, president of the Gulf Coast District, disclosed the decision following a lengthy contract committee meeting.
Washington Sept 27 Senator Morris Sheppard said he will run again for the United States Senate in 1936. He disclosed a formal announcement will follow. He urged President Roosevelt to approve the 30 million Brazos River project and Rockland Dam and other Texas PWA projects. He met the President and said Roosevelt showed interest and will review the recommendations. He planned to travel to Omaha for the Woodmen of the World meeting after which he would return to Texas.
A peace agreement ends the soft coal strike in all but four districts. About 400,000 miners will return to work Tuesday after the deal raises wages, though Virginia and Hazard Kentucky operators balked until Tennessee and Harlan Kentucky fields sign on.
Washington September 27. Harry L. Hopkins first assistant Aubrey Williams said there has been a gain in business but it has employed relatively few people. He attributed the paradox to increased efficiency allowing producers to make more with fewer workers and urged industry to share the upturn with workers to reduce unemployment.
Geo. E. O Neill of the Del Rio Wool and Mohair Co sold 600000 pounds at 26 cents clearing the warehouse. Allen C. Emery of Studley and Emery bought the lot. Fall wool averaged 25 1 2 cents in San Angelo sales this week with several buyers present including Clark of Draper and Company and Lucas of A W Hilliard and Son.
Washington reports national relief rolls fell five percent from July to August while eight major Texas cities show only a two percent decline. Total government expenditures drop ten percent, but Texas city expenses fall over eighteen percent as San Antonio leads Texas in decreased relief disbursements from July to August.
Mrs A C Trimble of Guthrie found a woman's 15 jewel wrist watch at the bottom of a can of sausage bought in Guthrie. A girl in packing allegedly dropped the watch. it was badly corroded and could not be repaired. She planned to return it to the factory.
