Val Verde County taxpayers are advised by Tax Assessor Lyle S. Almond of a new state law extending the automobile registration fiscal year to April 1 and that bids or licenses must be purchased before February 1. Taxes for 1936 are due October 1 and may be paid without penalty until January 31. Under the old law the last day for Cai licenses was February 1.
Partly cloudy conditions in Del Rio and vicinity with showers possible in West Texas tonight and Wednesday. Temperatures ranged from a high of 86 degrees yesterday to a low of 66 degrees this morning with 67 degrees noted yesterday. East Texas expected to see cloudy skies with occasional rains tonight and Wednesday.
Val Verde County total property valuations for 1935 show a 158 209 decline from 1934. Real estate values dropped to 6 677 577 08 while livestock values fell sharply from 873 508 to 697 682 as sheep cattle and goats decreased notably. Banks railroads and corporations totaled 2 866 168 50 in valuations.
Del Rio High School hosts African diplomat John Loomis at 8 p m to discuss Africa and Italy's looming issues. Superintendent R M Bankhead invited Loomis after requests from residents, hoping to include students and the general public. No admission charge.
James McIlvaine aged 45, second vice-president of Chase National Bank, Caldwell New Jersey, leaped from the tenth floor of a Houston hotel. A verdict of suicide was returned. Also reports of street fighting among garment workers in Dallas and a dispute at a Joe Louis Max Baer weigh-in in New York.
Wayne Beatty and Leonard Murray, Del Rio youths, held in connection with burglaries of two local business firms, were granted bonds of 1000 and 500 dollars respectively. Sheriff A E Steinmetz reported Tuesday morning. The pair waived examining trial and neither had posted bond by Tuesday.
Rain on Wednesday slowed progress on two Gibbs Street highway structures, a blacksmith shop and a paint and carpenter shop. About 16 men were employed, with eight inside workers on the nearly finished blacksmith shop. work to resume if rain stops. M. P. Garrett, supervisor of the mechanical department, commented.
The Del Rio city will complete refinancing of the remaining 31 000 in warrants at 500n as exchanges pass through the state comptroller. City clerk E F Howard said Tuesday morning that bonds totaling 136 000 have already been refinanced including street improvement fund warrants 1929 numbers 6 to 30 totaling 25 000 city of Del Rio fund warrants 1929 numbers 1 to 17 totaling 17 000 and water works improvement fund warrants 1928 numbers 7 to 25 totaling 19 000 plus 1928 numbers 51 to 125 totaling 75 000.
The first day of autumn brought rains stretching from San Antonio to Sanderson country. Del Rio logged 0.41 inches by Tuesday 7 am per observer H. L. Molyneux. Sabinal reported heavy falls, with Brackettville also seeing heavy rain around 7 pm Monday. Intermittent showers continued Monday into Tuesday noon, with Sunday to Tuesday totals at 0.51 inch.

Julian Johnson a 60 year old Phoenix resident placed a situations wanted ad in a Phoenix newspaper offering to be president of the United States and claiming he can lift the depression in 30 days. He said the idea came from a dream and told employés of the paper.
Daniel chosen to fill vacancy on the Chamber of Commerce State Park Committee created by the death of Judge J. J. Foster. Board met in regular session with L. Rust as chairman and Judge W. F. Boggess also on the committee. Routine business filled the rest of Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Francis Reynolds Colt, daughter of U S Senator Robert R Reynolds of North Carolina, obtained a private trial divorce decree in Reno today from Lv Baron Colt alleging cruelty. The couple is from prominent Eastern families and the ruling was announced on September 24.
The Tulsa dentist Dr. George S. Long announces candidacy for Oklahoma’s U S Senate seat on the share the wealth platform, aiming to join Huey Long in the upper house. He vows to run in the next election and seeks to extend the Kingfish program nationally.
Judge L J Wardlaw of Fort Worth named chairman of the Livestock Sanitary Commission in Austin by Governor James V Allred. He succeeds Dave Nelson of Orange who resigned to run the prison system. Wardlaw pledged to improve livestock conditions and maintain existing commission policies.
Mor ris Lefkowitz, a Brooklyn mourner, charged that he received a counterfeit bill for prayers at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Maspeth Queens. Herman Studin, 42, of Brooklyn, a unemployed auto body builder, was held on counterfeit money charges after Lefkowitz reported he handed a $5 bill for a graveyard prayer.
Austin Sept 24 A revenue bill to ban on premises liquor sales won its first Senate test as the chamber set it for Thursday consideration. Wet senators resisted advancing before the license system bill for mixed drinks. The House received a pension funding measure from the revenue and taxation committee and a 17 to 3 vote approved a graduated chain store tax expected to raise about 1.5 million dollars annually. The tax scales from one dollar per single store to 750 dollars for chains of 50 or more, with some exemptions. The House adjourned for tomorrow as committees planned hearings on control bills and pension matters amid county salary protests.
Ernest Thompson, head of the Railroad Commission, announced ELN. Stanley was offered the post of chief enforcement officer of conservation laws in East Texas. Lon Smith favored keeping Harry Miles. Stanley, a former holder of the post, considered the offer. Miles’s resignation had been reported. Tucker Royall of Palestine was also proposed for enforcement chief.
The Del Rio fire department will hold two practice race team drills Wednesday per fire chief Harry Altman. The drills supplement regular semi monthly tests as the department, winner of the Winter Garden races, prepares for state convention tests at Fort Worth.
In Chicago on September 24, the Reconstruction Finance Corporation added 7100 names to a list of stockholders being sued for 14.5 million dollars to cover a 90 million loan default to Central Republic Bank and Trust Company. Judge James H. Wilkerson extended the answer deadline from October 1 to October 15.
