Bandits held up the Neches Stave Bask at noon to steal 95000 dollars and abduct cashier Brock. Texas officers have joined the search for the suspects, with no trace found as of afternoon. The town lies about ten miles northeast of Palmetto.
The police department plans new blue uniforms following a Fall Opening show. Officers will switch from gray. a heavy traffic load at Greenwood Park delayed viewing of the spectacle.
Funeral services for J. R. Brooks 93 were held after his death by hanging at his home. Coroner Adler Helmers ruled death by hanging. Brooks long active in church work, a Methodist member and former lay minister. He survived by a widow a daughter and several siblings with relatives in California and Texas.
The Evening News debuts Seven daily installments of Rain or Shine by John Ainsworth. Smiley Johnson, manager of the John Rainey Shows, loves Mary the circus owner who secretly admires Bud Conway, a wealthy college guest. In Shrewsbury Smiley plots amid ring stunts.
The San Felipe High School project moved forward as the Southwest Construction Company took the contract for 637,096 with Will Noonan of San Antonio overseeing. Classes already occur while plumbing and heating remain to be completed and the district approved 80,0900 in bonds for additional entry facilities in the Del Rio Farle Pass area under a border patrol unification bill.
In Dallas on September 24 the State Republican Executive Committee names H W Talbet as a prospective opponent to Democrat Ross Sterting. Exum of Amarillo is discussed as a potential successor to Dr George Butte who has withdrawn from the governor race. Also mentioned are Henry Zweifel Wort Worth John F Grant Houston and William Talbott Houston. Selection of the successor was not completed.
Judge Joseph Jones rendered a noon Wednesday judgment for HB J Lowe against Central Power and Light Company in a damages suit. A parallel mandamus appeal by FP Canut against Central Power and Light was scheduled for hearing. A third case, Bank versus Ramon, was also heard by the district court.
Grand jury in Val Verde county indicts nine in Fredericksburg case as mohair dealers from Boston acquire Montague warehouse stock at Comfort and Robert Blum and others join the Fredericksburg trade. Adult hair at 31 cents and kid hair at 41 cents, with shipments planned next week and total accumulation forecast around 260 thousand pounds. Swinney faces multiple forgery charges after arrest in county jail following a poker fight. Additional indictments cover desertion, assault with intent to murder, theft and embezzlement, liquor transportation, and aggravated assault.
Milwaukee report from September details 19 year old Wilam Phillips admitting he killed his father with a shotgun while waiting for him at home after learning from family that the father abused the mother and forced her to make moonshine. He says the act was deliberate despite his mother’s pleas and other relatives corroborate the accusation.
Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce will not oppose revisions by Southern Pacific to run a San Antonio to Eagle Pass train direct service. Train would depart San Antonio around 8 to 8:30 am, reach Eagle Pass by mid afternoon, and return, pending Texas Railroad Commission approval to discontinue the Del Rio to San Antonio motor train.
Miss Helen Huddleston of Del Rio and Ben Marshall of Menard filed notice of intention to marry. Also listed were Ramona Reyes and Rita Munos, both of Del Rio.
Del Rio placed second in the livestock judging contest at the San Angelo Fair after a brief two week practice. The team featured Roger Rose Edgar Measels Ernest Quigg and Arthur Hutchinson under trainer Bil Rogers. They also earned second in beef cattle judging and goats, fourth in sheep, with Rose taking third high individual in both beef cattle and goats and winning $3 in each contest.
The Kansas City market report shows sheep receipts at 16,000 with 449 holdovers and a 25 cent decline in killing classes. Top lambs reached 7.50 while most sold 7.25 to 7.50, Texas wethers at 3, cattle at 6,000 receipts with 1,200 calves and 1264 holdovers, fed steers and yearlings steady to strong, hogs slow and uneven 15 to 25 cents lower with 6,000 hogs and top 9.00.

John Rowland expresses gratitude as chairman of the Del Rio Fair Opening and Style Show. He credits the Retail Merchants Association and Chamber of Commerce for nearly perfect cooperation, praising Del Rio spirit.
J A Scott and Miss Dolores Bishop wed Tuesday evening in a ring ceremony closing the Del Rio Fall Opening and Style Show at Greenwood Park. About 5,000 spectators attended as the couple exchanged vows under an illuminated floral arch while Lohengrin played.
Manuel C. Gonzalez of San Antonio, attorney for the League of United Latin American Citizens, will speak in San Antonio Wednesday night on racial discrimination against children of Mexican descent in public schools. Bishop W. T. Capers of San Antonio will be in Del Rio and conduct services at St. James Episcopal Church Sunday, September 24 at 11 a.m. Members of the church and others are invited.
New York report notes stocks falling sharply from 1 to 14 points, hitting all time lows. Dozens of issues set new lows for the era as the market stayed bearish despite late rally attempts and forecasts of further recessions and a break below June resistance.
An executive committee with two members from each county will oversee Highway 10 plans.
