The Rio Grande breached its banks flooding Albuquerque suburbs and San Marcial 100 miles south. Homes collapsed and deaths were reported as residents fled. University of New Mexico students aided evacuations in the flooded district.
El Paso Automobile Association will broadcast southwest road conditions twice weekly with focus on routes out of El Paso. Del Rio Chamber and El Paso Chamber will coordinate reports, distributed to service stations and broadcast on Station KTSN to publicize U. S Highway 90 status.
Rankin residents vote to keep the county courthouse in Rankin. In the Saturday election 444 ballots favored Rankin and 36 supported moving the seat to McCamey. A relocation vote cannot occur for another five years.
The Southwerthi line of the Liberal railway reaches Grover and Stinnett in Hutchinson County after construction started July 1, 1875 and a temporary bridge across the Canadian River. The line opens vast farmland, with wheat shipments increasing as Hutchinson and Hansford Counties settle and grow.
The San Antonio district handled exports valued at 42.324 million dollars in 1928, a rise of over five million from 1927 and far above 1913-14 levels. Imports from Mexico through the district reached 6.264 million, up from 5.393 million in 1927, signaling a steady postwar recovery and strong rail-driven trade growth with Mexico.

A Plymouth sedan carrying five youths from Brady to watch a bullfight in Villa Acuna crashed into a ditch near Bevil's River road Sunday night. Driver Bud Jay, 19, suffered arm and elbow lacerations. Perry Smith, 29, had a cut above the eye. Ernest Conrad, 19, scalp wounds. Leo Smith and Sam Growley were also in the car. None seriously hurt. they were taken to Williams Sanitarium and returned home after repairs. The driver, unfamiliar with the road, failed to notice a slight curve.
United Press reports Texas Democratic Committee to meet in 1990 to decide Hoover bolters status. Chairman D. W. Wilcox says bolters should not be accepted as Democratic candidates but may vote in the western Democratic primary.
Edward Taylor remains in a prolonged coma at Williams Sanitarium entering his 36th day. He shows fleeting signs of awakening and often rubs his head with his left hand while attendants say the end of the coma may be near.
Albert McCoy alias R F E Goad goes on trial in 63rd district court at 2 pm facing burglary charges. Prosecutors allege he burglarized the home of J H Fisher on June 4 after an indictment returned by the grand jury last week.
Six entrants started the Mexico City to Kansas City Air race with aircraft piloted from Valbuena field to Tampico on the first leg, the United Press reports.
Del Rio Wildcats battled Junction club on a dirt field Saturday afternoon. Mirgello scored the Wildcats only touchdown as Wayne Love added the extra point. Junction used strong line play and hard rushing to secure the 14 to 6 victory amid a dust cloud.
Weather notes show mostly cloudy conditions for Rin and vicinity tonight with mild temperatures. Yesterday’s high reached 85 and low around 69 as a reference for expected overnight ranges.

A Mexican man who entered a San Felipe home and tried to pose as the resident's husband was dismissed from the scene after police involvement. He was fined $10 plus costs, total $21.70, in city court for disturbing the peace. Week end disturbances yielded fines of $1 and costs for one case and $5 and costs for another drunkenness charge.
Harry Sinclair, convicted oil man, says in a written statement that he is persecuted by the government for practices he claims the government itself indulges in. He alleges that jury shadowing is common and that observing a jury only becomes contempt of court when he engaged in it.
A plea to Governor Moody requests immediate appointment of a successor to Attorney General Claude Pollard to lead a probe into Hidalgo County flood control levee bonds and warrants. Nine members of the Hidalgo County Good Government League signed the plea. Also noted are healthy triplet calves born at the Zwissig ranch near Decoto California.

Leonard filed an appeal in Austin court seeking review of his 50-year sentence for the 1914 killing of J. R. Watson of Brown County. The defendant was convicted on the charge last year and now contests the conviction and punishment.
