Mrs Robert Greenwood longtime Del Rio resident died Sunday at her Marfa home after a long illness at age 78. Funeral Monday at the Presbyterian Church with Rev M F Hill officiating, burial in Marfa Cemetery. Survived by six children and several grandchildren including Hart and Robert Greenwood Jr of Marfa. others live in Carlsbad New Mexico and Anthony New Mexico. She moved to Marfa about 30 years ago for health. husband Robert Cheenwood died six months earlier. Three brothers are noted in the article.
Federal economists report the year’s buying power for farmers at 103 percent, reaching the level seen before the downturn. The assessment, issued in Washington, notes higher farmer purchasing capacity against the prior year.
Hyde Park N Y Sept 22 President Roosevelt approved final plans for the voluntary unemployment census after a conference. John Biggers administrator said the count should be completed before December 1 and that the President approved a five million dollar expenditure. Roosevelt began a Western tour at 3 PM.
Fiscal officials predict administration will cut work relief spending substantially next fiscal year to balance the budget. Daniel Bell already started budget hearings, and Roosevelt will submit estimates to Congress in January.
Former Maverick County Sheriff Harry H Robinson died at his Eagle Pass area ranch from a bullet wound in the abdomen. Investigators think the pistol misfire occurred while being adjusted. Survived by widow, two children, and brothers John F Robinson of Val Verde and Ed and Lee Robinson. Funeral held in Eagle Pass, body later moved to Uvalde.
Ruth Roland, famed star of silent films, died at her Hollywood home after a long illness. The report notes her lengthy illness and death at age unknown.

Dr Hiram W Evans of Atlanta claims Hugo L. Black is a life member of the Ku Klux Klan though Black is not a Klan member. The article quotes Evans denying such membership and clarifies there is no Klan life membership card.
Kerrville Sept 22 A strong legal line up will appear October 4 in district court as H. B. Opp and L. E. Trimble face joint murder trial for W. R. Tomlinson of Menard County. Defense includes Dan Moody Lee Wallace Will Morriss Sr. Prosecution aided by Carlos Ashley Walter Woodward F. H Hammond. Prior separate trials were joined after venue changes and appeals.
Dr John R Brinkley says the iron lung is for Del Rio physicians and others in the area. The device aids cases of paralysis and infantile paralysis and will be housed at the Brinkley Sanitarium. Physicians may request its use when needed as few such devices exist in Texas.

A French warship escorted the passenger steamer Djenn from Marseilles into the Mediterranean after an attack on the steamer Koutoubia.

In Brackettville District Court Judge Brian Montague presided as Pete Shields was found guilty of drunken driving after a jury verdict. Shields received days imprisonment in Kin ey County jail a $250 fine and a two year driving suspension. Aristo also charged pleaded guilty with a suspended sentence and 90 day driving ban.
A waterfront picket led by Edward Farr of the National Maritime Union was shot in the hip today in Houston. Two oil company special workers are being held by police for questioning.
