County Judge Roger Thurmond reports 35 miles of county road in the Juno section require repair after a flood from Devil's River. Over 10 miles need complete rebuilding and about 25 miles major repairs. damages exceed 10,000 dollars. Road traffic across the main Devil's River channel will be stopped daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Fire broke out in the kitchen of a hospital run by Dr. G N Thomas at Presidio, destroying the building with losses between 14000 and 15000 dollars. Mrs Thomas and other patients were removed. the proprietor’s sister tended the proprietor’s wife who had heart trouble. Personal belongings and furniture were moved out before the flames. The hospital had been completed recently.
Louis A. Johnson, newly named national commander of the American Legion, said he is 100 per cent for the mandates of the convention. He urged repeal of Prohibition and keeping America out of the League of Nations. The Johnsons left San Francisco for a Monterey Peninsula outing before heading home to Clarksburg West Virginia via Chicago.
Bloodhounds are used to search for the infant son of Mr and Mrs Jim Anderson missing near Shawnee Bend on the Lake of the Ozarks since yesterday. A book he played with was found about 200 yards from the take.
Albert Staley ranchman banker and oil operator died at his home in Wichita Falls. Born in Wise County he was orphaned at nine after his father was killed by Indians and supported his mother by trapping in early years.
The huge turbines at Devil's Lake hydro plant began turning Tuesday after flood repairs. Motors will run slowly for three days to dry generators, then full operation is expected. Cleaning steam turbines will take weeks. crews tear down, replace parts, and rush work on Lake Walk plant.
Grand jury for September term remains in session Tuesday afternoon. Jury docket will be called Monday subject to the criminal docket, when trial dates will be set. Judge Joseph Jones notes a light criminal docket and unusually heavy civil docket. Petit jurors to report Monday.
Celia Trevino Carranza a noted Mexican violinist was granted a divorce from Alejandro Benitez in Juarez civil court. Salvador Franco Arias her attorney cited a clash of artistic temperament. Carranza a grandniece of Venustiano Carranza and cousin of Emilio Carranza will not remarry and will focus on music.
Washington reports that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation is shaping a new farm relief program favoring private dealers and bankers over farmer co operatives. Texas will host the Agricultural Credit Corporation with Fort Worth main office and Houston San Angelo branches.
Fort Worth report states W. H. Smith died after being stung 17 times by aggressive bumble bees while cutting grass with a scythe. Doctors seek relatives' permission for a post mortem to study the bee venom's effect on the human body.
Four bandits blasted the First National Bank vault in Gravette Arkansas and escaped in a truck with $6,000 and a five ton safe. Bank officials could not confirm total losses as they did not know what the safe contained.
Brownwood report describes six pecans three inches long and five inches around found on a small tree on Carnegie Library grounds. Pecan men debate if the nuts are pure pecans or hybrids. Ross R. Wolfe of Stephenville visited to view the tree and suggested a hickory pecan cross, rare to occur. A fence surrounds the tree valued by one expert at 100000 for research, with plans to sell buds and nuts to pecan specialists.
Chicago dispatch reports Clarence Darrow denying renunciation of agnosticism after speculation he would join the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis. He warned that abandoning his disbelief would make him a fit subject for a psychopathic hospital.
The San Angelo branch of the Agricultural Credit Corporation opened for business on the seventh floor of the Western Reserve Building. The bank took over the north front and adjacent offices with some furniture installed and more to come from a state bureau. Duwain E. Hughes and G. C. Magruder will handle loan applications.
Oklahoma City September 20. Col Cicero I Murray sent twenty extra national guardsmen to the Wilcox Oil and Gas field after word the company had opened three wells and planned a fourth. Guardsmen were placed at each well as Murray vowed to keep them closed despite a Supreme Court ruling granting superseders bonds to open ten wells.
In Fort Worth on September 20 Barney McGanagie already serving a life sentence for murder went on trial for robbing Jere Green a bank messenger of stockyards National Bank. The heist removed 1800 dollars in cash and about 18000 in cashier checks by three men on a downtown street. After the robbery McGanagle was convicted of killing John Cherris in Houston.
Pecos Texas. Mercie Shorty Ramos 38 war veteran who earned French and American decorations was killed by a neighbor amid a revival of an old feud among Spanish American residents. Ramos received a colored funeral and the sixteenth of September decorations were used. Ernest Pienendo is held.
Wisconsin voters head to the polls in a pivotal primary that could shift control between conservatives and progressives. Former Governor Walter Kohler contests incumbent Governor Philip LaFollette while Senator John J. Blaine faces challenger John B. Chapple, a young editor.

Galveston hosts the State convention of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas on October 17 18 and 19 with participation from county officials statewide. Judge E B McClintock of El Paso will preside and many representatives from contracting and equipment manufacturing firms are expected to attend.
Miguel Ahumada a former Exeter Academy Harvard University and Massachusetts Tech student was sentenced to death in Mexico for the murder of his sweetheart Antonia Casillas. The son of Guadalajara's former governor had his death sentence upheld by lower courts.

The Census Bureau reports the cotton spinning industry operated in August at 72.4 percent capacity on a single shift, up from 51.7 percent in July and 81.8 percent in August last year.
Merced Tobias a former Mexican soldier and Manuel Guajardo a U S resident were sentenced in Brownsville District Court to 15 years in the penitentiary for the slaying of San Benito Chief of Police Luke Waters. The defendants disavowed their alleged statements. the jury deliberated briefly. Guajardo was wounded and captured with bloodhounds. Tobias was arrested later.
The Texas Legislature approved a tax remission bill allowing optional penalty cancellations for delinquent taxes and backed a new oil theft curb in the fast Texas oilfield. Governor Sterling signed a highway bond aid measure reducing county obligations and the state gasoline tax burden, with a special session set to adjourn Wednesday at 6 pm.
Washington reports that Maine’s Democratic victory cooled the enthusiasm of special interests to donate to the Hoover-Curtis campaign. Representative Joseph W. Burns, Democrat of Tennessee, chairman of the Democratic congressional campaign committee, issued a statement through the Democratic National Committee.
