Partly cloudy conditions in Del Rio tonight and Thursday with cooler spells. Temperatures ranged from a high of 88 yesterday to a low around 67 with a morning low near 73. West Texas features partly cloudy skies and cooler air tonight and Thursday across the Panhandle West and North, Sabine River area warmer tonight, cooler in the Northwest Thursday.
In San Angelo area on September 19 the government began purchasing sheep in Tom Green and nearby counties. Most animals were condemned and carcasses burned or buried as district six sorters, led by Will Hill, processed more than 10 000 offers. Officials expect weekly quotas to rise from 3000 to about 3750 head.
Harry Petrie announces the Federal livestock buying program will purchase 75,000 head of sheep daily across 13 Western states, doubling from 37,000. Montana Wyoming Colorado New Mexico Texas Oregon Idaho Utah Nevada North Dakota Arizona South Dakota Nebraska join, with Arizona and Oregon added for the first time.
The Senate munitions committee heard that foreign machine guns were imported and sold in the United States without restrictions. Testimony said Federal Laboratories, Inc engaged in lobbying to block tear gas import restrictions.
A Tuesday Commission meeting approved changes to the city PWA contract urged by Attorney General James V Allred to secure final approval within 30 days after the election. City engineers and Allred outlined the adjustments noting a New York bank and the Del Rio treasury will handle funds for the San Felipe water project. Juan Pena was named assistant to sanitary inspector Burke Rose. A petition by East Del Rio residents for three lots to build a community hall was presented by McKinley Williams colored.
San Felipe school district reports a 13 percent enrollment increase from last year. Through Tuesday total registration reached 1,049 students, with 546 boys and 503 girls. Supt Carlos B. Castaneda expects more than 1,200 students by the end of September.
Del Rio residents expand fall work to painting and remodeling. Jack Paul at 119 West Martin Street has his home repainted. E. Bock repaints the Border Grocery and Russell Barrington Hardware on Main Street. Screen and door repairs appear in several neighborhoods as a general cleanup precedes winter.

Full pardons were granted Tuesday to M. T. Alexander and W. M Reed, who were jailed after the June 4 1933 Lowe’s Tourist Camp robbery at Del Rio. Both soldiers at Fort Clark at the time, they were captured 45 minutes after the crime and sentenced to five years in 1933.

James H Waller 43 World War veteran died in Fort Baynard New Mexico after long illness in veterans hospitals. Funeral services were held there with American Legion and Disabled Veterans Association in charge as pallbearers included Nolan W Smith and others. Survived by widow Aleveta, parents J N and Mrs Waller of Del Rio, four brothers Austin Sam Phil Forrest and two sisters Lois and Mrs Tom Hamilton. Austin Waller and Sam Waller returned from Fort Baynard after services.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley will offer a red grapefruit this season with a pink blush on the peel and bright red interior. Five years ago pink Marsh seedless trees yielded red fruit in two valley locations. Shippers anticipate a ready market in the North for this novelty fruit.

Riots flare at Lockwood Manufacturing in Waterville Maine as National Guardsmen deploy after clashes with pickets. Tear gas and fire hose used to disperse hundreds outside Powell Knitting Mill in Spartanburg South Carolina. One striker Ernest K. Riley of Mount Holly died from injuries. Police arrest 23 at Lyman blocking road to Pacific Mill. Mill reopen guarded today.
New Mexico Cattle Growers and Wool Growers associations vote to study buying 2,000,000 pounds of cotton seed cake jointly to cut costs and freight. A five member committee will study the plan. They also press railroads to keep drought-rate relief for cattle.

He cited Hopkins and the Justice Department efforts to curb graft while noting local officials administer relief rolls, with Republicans and Democrats alike accused of building political machines through relief funds.
