The President said work in Washington would delay his trip to the Pacific Coast and he would likely miss the American Legion convention in St Louis with planned stops at Boulder Canyon and the San Diego Exposition.
Nat Malone, newly named Val Verde County livestock inspector, began duties Tuesday to inspect all livestock before slaughter and keep sales records and brands. He will require monthly reports from all butchers to provide protection to ranchmen against theft.
Bulwood Higginbotham, a Black prisoner, was taken from Lafayette County jail by a mob and hanged as a white man Glen Roberts’ May killing case lay before a jury. Deputies were overpowered and about 150 people seized keys to drag him from his cell.
County officers recovered a 1929 Ford Tudor sedan stolen Monday afternoon in Houston. The car sat at a drug store for hours, was moved to the courthouse yard, and later identified via short wave broadcasts as the vehicle Houston police were seeking. It remains held until claimed, with only a flat tire noted as damage.
Alonzo Cadena Jr., seven, son of Mr and Mrs Alonzo Cadena, suffered severe burns to chest and face at 6 p m Tuesday at 307 West Martin Street. Playing with an empty 50 gallon gas drum, a spark ignited fumes. Family members put out the flames. the boy could not explain how the fumes caught. He may have been scratching the tank with a flint rock. His mother was formerly Julia Draeger.
Co. B. Dutch Wardlaw announced the sale of the entire mohair stash in the Producers Wool and Mohair Company warehouses totaling 300000 pounds. William Cheshire of Collins and Aikman purchased the collection at 50 cents per pound for grown hair and 60 cents for kid hair.
The Del Rio Independent School District board approved adding sixth grades from Central and North Heights Elementary Schools to Del Rio Junior School. The change increases class periods to 41 minutes and brings 98 students, v2 from North Heights, to the junior school. Superintendent Bankhead announces staffing changes including Marjorie Woods joining West End School and Ruth Cowan becoming librarian.
City police chief Amos Humphrey announces success in a campaign to curb stray dogs. He notes no new complaints for several days and says many owners registered their pets immediately after the crackdown.
Tulsa on September 18 report says Dr. George S. Long will name four congressmen publicly in Louisiana in January for plotting Huey P. Long’s death. He claims Weiss was a tool of those plotters and believes Weiss thought he would be tried and acquitted.
Doretha Conditt nine daughter of Mr and Mrs C T Conditt of the Steam Plant was hurt Tuesday evening when thrown from a horse. She lacerated her head and right leg landing against a barbed wire fence. The attending physician said she was not seriously injured.
The Federal Emergency Relief Administration runs an adult education program with no fees for most courses. Registration is Monday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at West Fira Elementary and San Felipe High. Miss Elinor Lind oversees the district. Mireles directs in Del Rio. Courses include citizenship English spelling writing arithmetic with free instruction for ages 14 and up over about 15 weeks. Spanish classes at San Felipe carry a fee. This is the third year of the program under FERA.
Wardlaw Brothers topped this section by selling 1 200 yearlings at 7 50 each. Lindsey Hicks of the Sanderson country purchased the lot, a price stockmen say has not been surpassed in this section.
Double funeral services were conducted at 2 p m Wednesday in Dilton Oklahoma for J R Duffey Owens and Mae Owens both Del Rio residents for two years. A telegram from O O Owens to L P Caldwell stated O O Owens is J R Owens brother. The couple were killed Sunday in an automobile crash near Tulsa Oklahoma. Bodies were taken to Clifton for Baptist Church services. The couple lived in Del Rio and on the Owens lease in the Pandale section in 1930 and 1931.
AUSTIN September 18 Homer Garrison Jr 34 of Lufkin was appointed assistant director of the Texas department of public safety He will be second in command to acting director L G Phares and will oversee the officers training schools Garrison became a peace officer 15 years ago
Mrs. Jess Baker suffered severe bruises on her right arm when the car door opened as it was driven into her garage. Mrs. C. W. Wheeler of Carta Valley was driving the car into Mrs. Baker’s North Main Street home when the door sprang open and pinned Baker’s arm to the garage wall.
Funeral services for Albert Thomas Pingenot eight year old son of Chas T Pingenot were held Wednesday at 10 a m in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev J A Sirois officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery under Doran Funeral Home. Albert born in Del Rio on September 8 1927 died Monday night after long heart disease. He completed third grade at Sacred Heart Academy and would have entered fourth grade this Fall. Survived by father brother Louis Edward grandmothers two, seven aunts and three uncles. Pallbearers included W T Turner B Finch Peirce John Qualia Hugo Rusenberger.
County roads near Juno undergo extensive repairs this week after flood damage. County Judge Clarence Herreford said the repairs follow damage from the recent floods in the area.
Expert in city bonds C. E. Cripe of San Antonio met Del Rio officials Tuesday to discuss renewing the city’s bonds.

He proposes a graduated chain store tax, sulphur tax, tax on pipelines, selective luxury tax, franchise tax corrections, local bills, and 200000 for a State Courts building contingent on federal aid. Austin Sept 18 A bill to levy a chain store tax increase natural gas tax legalize and tax pool halls permit cities to levy one half of the state occupation tax on utilities and to levy against utility gross receipts were introduced in the Legislature upon receipt of Allred's message.

The Senate quickly backed recess appointments and approved a bill aligning the Brazos River district act with federal rules to authorize a $30.5 million allotment for the project.
Rotarians lunched on a portion of a 690 pound tuna caught by Dr. John R. Brinkley off the Canadian coast during his vacation. About 500 pounds remained packed on the yacht in dry ice. A portion reached Del Rio with Dr. and Mrs. H. D. Osburn and was served at noon. Brinkley plans to have the skin stuffed and mounted for Del Rio High School.
