Kenneth Caskey and Arthur James two 14 year olds from El Paso ran away from home in Del Rio. Kenneth received a ticket to El Paso and began his journey Tuesday. Sheriff A E Steinmetz arrested both boys Wednesday and notified their parents.
Quemado Valley near Del Rio on the Rio Grande expands rapidly with about 1,100 residents in 235 families. The irrigation project covers over 15,000 acres with a 35 mile canal system, water costs at 4.50 per acre, and a 4 teacher school serving 300 valley students. Farmers report strong vegetable output and land values from 115 to 135 dollars per acre as new facilities rise.
Textiles strike unrest in Woonsocket Rhode Island leads to night of mob violence. Rioters overturn cars loot stores and homes as troops arrive and fire on the crowd, killing one rioter and wounding many others ending the disturbance.
The 19th annual reunion of the Old Trail Drivers Association of Texas will be held October 4 5 and 6 at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio. Local attendees include John M. Doak Frank Greenwood W. J. Turney E. W. Billings and Walter Whitehead with association president R F Jennings urging all old trail drivers or their sons to attend as matters of vital importance will be discussed and the dues backlog will be forgiven with a $1 per member attendance fee.
Mrs. John R. Brinkley shows off a new sport LaSalle coupe in canary color, a gift from the doctor. The car, purchased in Kansas City during his gubernatorial bid, was driven to Del Rio by Howard Wilson, XER advertising agent, and arrived recently.
Seattle, Sept 18. In Superior Court Dr J B Lunger argued a physician deserves a larger fee if a patient dies than if he lives. The suit by Dr William G Palmer for fees followed an appendectomy on Mrs Gustaf Pearson in 1932. Palmer had been awarded 150 dollars. Lunger testified reputational damages from a death justify a bigger fee.
The League of Nations today admitted Soviet Russia to full membership by a 39 to 3 vote with seven abstentions and three non voters. In New Orleans Judge Archibald J. Higgins was named to serve the unexpired term of the late Justice Winston Overton. A Liverpool man, George Marsden, faced debtor’s court after his wife washed his remaining shirt.
Texarkana report states Edwin Brinker was acquitted by a Boston jury of murder in the slaying of P. A. McSwain a Texarkana lunch stand proprietor last year. A prior trial ended with a hung jury.
Governor Merriam received word from Cedar Rapids Iowa that his brother Robert was accidentally killed while removing a shotgun from a car. The incident occurred in Cedar Rapids and the notification arrived today.

Secretary Ickes told the House committee that a permanent oil conservation policy for the United States is needed and urged federal power to allocate production among state units when states fail to do so. He called for penalties for producers who violate state orders, arguing for federal and state enforcement.
A Senate munitions committee report states Germany is using impounded foreign funds to subsidize its aircraft manufacturing. The briefing, dated September 18, was read to the committee in Washington.
Total white enrollment in Del Rio Independent School District rises 18 percent from 1931 and 5 percent from last year, reaching 1 401 pupils excluding the colored school. Breakdown shows high school 194 students, junior 214, central 279, North Heights 287, West End 427 with 703 boys and 698 girls overall. Colored school reports 18 pupils. Superintendent Roy M. Police dispersed a communist demonstration in The Hague as 10 automobile loads of protesters tried to disturb the royal procession for Queen Wilhelmina’s opening of Parliament. Three communist MPs were ejected and arrested after clashes inside the chamber.
London man Ernest Clark aged 55 files for divorce alleging 30 years of persistent nagging as the grounds for the split. He cites marital strain and seeks judicial relief.
On opening day of the program Val Verde County purchased about 2,400 head of sheep at 82 per head, with a weekly county quota set at 3,000. Roughly 80 percent of the sheep were condemned, about 2,000 head driven to Del Rio for processing. Officials report applications for about 100,000 sheep and 40,000 goats, though no goats were purchased Monday.
The Brinkleys on Palm Drive in Hudson Gardens near completion of a pipe organ installation with Roiter as the installer. The music hall woodwork features carved walnut and natural maple and the grounds receive further improvements. A fountain attraction will soon display rare bird figures as flamingos from Cuba are expected to arrive.
The region from Del Rio and vicinity expects generally fair conditions tonight and Wednesday. Yesterday’s high reached 89 with a low of 64, and this morning’s minimum was 67. West Texas will be warmer on Wednesday, while East Texas remains partly cloudy tonight and Wednesday.
