He cites Maude Adams William Jennings Bryan Clarence Darrow Chauncey Olcott Fiske O'Hara Walker Whiteside and Senator Cummings as examples of the kind I carried luggage and ran errands for them and valued service. He notes those who think themselves important demand impossible things and grow crab if unmet.
J. M. Allardyce of San Antonio spoke on Present Day Conditions at the Lions Club luncheon held at the Roswell Hotel. Formerly a Presbyterian minister, he has lectured since retirement. E. C. Wellborn presided and praised the Del Rio High School pep squad, with the club voting a financial contribution. New members Aubrey Hudson Melvin Rowland and David Young were welcomed.

Severe tropical storm with full hurricane intensity approaches Cape Hatteras as warnings stretch from Wilmington to Beaufort. In Washington, a Senate committee report alleges Du Pont owns over 100 million dollars in a German armament trust and controls a large share of voting stock.
The Governor's Council voted to request heads of state institutions to furnish names of all alien employees with the aim of dismissing non citizens. Councillor James Brennan of Somerville explained that many aliens are on the state payroll.
Mrs May Lillie wife of Major Croy don Lillie died from injuries after an automobile accident near Pawnee Oklahoma. Her husband was not seriously hurt. The wreck occurred while returning from Taos New Mexico where they re enacted their marriage ceremony in celebration of their golden wedding anniversary.
President Roosevelt told the Mobilization for Human Needs annual meeting that national income would soon double from its low point and that confidence was returning. He urged private relief groups to expect more private aid as prosperity returns and supported social services financed by private funds rather than taxes.
Malcolm Mitchell age 38 of San Angelo was found dead in a Phoenix box car. He was the son of Mrs H. H. Mitchell of San Angelo and nephew of the late Sheriff Allen. Friends from Del Rio said he had been in poor health and likely went to Arizona for that reason. Officials indicate death from natural causes.
The Del Rio Boosters Club, sponsor of Del Rio High School athletic activities, will be reorganized Thursday evening at 7 30 o'clock in the Chamber of Commerce. Preliminary plans for the year’s activities will be discussed.
Vice President Garner visits the White House for lunch with President Roosevelt. He says he’s “a man from the sticks looking around” and will stay in New York indefinitely after leaving Washington. Garner notes primaries are finished and hints at further plans.
Brooklyn laundry man Joseph Tipaldo lost business after the U S Supreme Court ruled New York’s minimum wage law for women laundry workers unconstitutional. He expanded staff to 20, then profits fell as customers and drivers left, leaving him seeking work. The case followed the Schechter brothers’ failed poultry business amid broader legal battles over labor standards.
The Upper Falls plant of the International Paper Company is being razed in Ticonderoga New York. Newsprint manufacture began at the site around 1884 and at its peak the paper was sold nationwide.
In San Antonio a two month old boy alleged sold on an installment plan was placed in temporary custody of the Child Protective Association as authorities pursue a dependent child suit. Mrs. Jarquin, accused of operating an unlicensed placement agency, denies a frame-up while the case cites an undercover inquiry by Edwin Uecker. The alleged sale involved $5 down $5 more and a $30 balance.
London reports indicate Britain faces a setback as Germany and Italy push to delay plans for a five power Locarno meeting. Germany says the interim period before an October session is inadequate for ground work, while Italy proposes delaying until further talks occur among the five powers. Belgium and France offer to proceed with an October London meeting. The Spanish non intervention sub committee of eight nations held a private session.
Cameron County Commissioners Court voted to reduce salaries for nearly all appointive staff and abolish four offices, saving about 31428 annually. Elective county officials kept their state fixed salaries, while county judge and auditor office pay remained unchanged. Several posts including special investigators for the DA office and assistant county treasurer were eliminated as part of the economy program.
Torrential rains worsen San Angelo flood cutting the city off in all directions and threatening the water supply. The Concho River rose sharply as Water Valley and Christoval recorded heavy falls. Grape Creek Carlsbad and many areas faced flooding while other counties reported widespread rainfall aiding farms and ranges.
Six inches of rain fell at June and three more at Rocksprings with a four foot rise in the Rio Grande at Devil's River and high water near Del Rio. Portions near San Angelo Sonora Comstock Camp Wood and Brackettville report rainfall while highways including San Angelo route 30 and Rocksprings 41J close due to floodwaters. Officials note intermittent storms allowed drainage and kept some routes open despite rising creeks and rivers.
