He fled after a court hearing in Piedras Negras as Rafael Dominguez, named by officer Henry, faces arrest. Dominguez and two companions remain jailed in Piedras Negras or Val Verde County.
Two goats that butted over a bee hive in Waynesboro Pennsylvania were killed when enraged insects stung them to death.
Gov Green spoke with President Roosevelt amid Woonsocket rioting as 12 people die in the textile strike, with 5 000 protesters clashing with police and guards. He plans a special session and a $200 000 state police boost and orders arrests of communists. Secretary Dern warns Army aid could deploy 200 000 troops if lawmakers request it.
Providence Rhode Island reports Governor Green told the extraordinary session that Rhode Island faced a communist uprising not a textile strike. He urged legislation to call federal troops, and an appropriation of 200000 to enroll 1000 war veterans as special state police and fund other emergency expenditures.
Austin action extends the payment deadline for delinquent ad valorem and poll taxes to November 1, 1935. In Webb County over three years 17 292 predatory animals were trapped and killed to protect livestock and wildlife. A B Bynum reports 2 753 bobcats 14 447 coyotes 82 mountain lions and 10 ocelots eliminated since Sept 1 1931. Work is by US Predatory Animal Control with state and county cooperation.
Two 14 year old boys, Arthur James and Kenneth Caskey, were found by Mrs. Mary McCulley and Mrs. G. L. Grimes at the rear of a home on East Broadway wearing clothing from a large bundle. They claimed they were traveling and had run away from El Paso two days earlier without parental consent. Sheriff A. E. Steinmetz was notified after one boy admitted they had left home recently.
Edwin S. Harris of Temple died when his car hit a fence post and overturned near a culvert outside Garfield, about 20 miles southeast of Austin on the Bastrop highway. Harris was found dead in his vehicle.
First and third officers of the liner President Cleveland testified before the inquiry into the Morro Castle disaster alleging Captain Robert Carey delayed lifeboats. Third Officer Harold Peterson said earlier lifeboats might have saved more lives. A Cuban official hinted radicals could reveal who fired the ship, suggesting passenger involvement.
Havana port police chief Captain Oscar Hernandez said the majority of Latin crew members aboard the liner Morro Castle were communists. He disclosed this assessment during a Havana briefing.
In Geneva on September 13 Poland declared it would not abide by the general treaty protecting minority peoples and would reject any international body overseeing its minority policies. The State Highway Commission in Austin accepted an eight acre tract at San Felipe Creek for park purposes. The land lies between the new Highway No. and railroad tracks just north of the county and will be developed by the Highway Department. It will be plotted as a park near Moore Park, separated only by the railroad. The commission also made road work appropriations affecting 27 counties.
The Labor Department reports a 3.2 percent increase in retail food prices for the two weeks ending August 28. By the end of that period prices were 7.7 percent higher than August 29 last year and 144 percent higher than two years ago. If a standard amount cost $1 in 1914 it would cost $1.15 now, up from $1.11 two weeks earlier and $1.07 a year ago.
Canada increases rubber manufactures exports sharply according to a Canadian Pacific Railway bulletin. Seven months of this year show an 85 percent gain and exports nearly match all of 1933. The trend has risen for more than a year with 1933 exports slightly above 1932.
Otto Pfandich of Munich was beaten after villagers mistook him for an unpopular resident. The mob ducked him in a brook five times before the error was uncovered.
More than a dozen states including Maryland California will enter prize stock at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo September 15 22 co operated by the American Hereford Cattle Breeders Association. Exhibits will come from Texas New Mexico Oklahoma Kansas Missouri Iowa Indiana Illinois Maryland Colorado Wyoming Oregon and California. Major Hereford shows and regional exhibits accompany a seven day racing program and notable premiums despite drought conditions.
Three suspects tied to the Rodriguez filling station robbery at Comstock were detained after a chase from Sanderson. A man a woman and a boy, linked to a stolen car, were held by Deputy Blackwell and Sheriff Steinmetz before being brought to Del Rio for detention.
In a scene echoing older frontier days, two women argued custody of a baby born August 23 near Eagle Pass Hill. The caretaker charged daily fees totaling 45 dollars and refused return until paid. The mother offered five dollars, the deal sufficed, and no charges were filed.
