A chaotic gunfire incident erupts in the St Louis City Hall with two dozen shots exchanged among policemen and politicians. No serious injuries reported as lawmakers debate safety and responsibility amid a turbulent political climate.
Leaders and thousands of Long followers planned to bury him this afternoon and seek whether assassination stemmed from a conspiracy. Reverend Gerald Smith urged a congressional inquiry with support from the district attorney. State offices closed as funeral approached amid a forecast of a sharp political clash. Witness list for the Weiss murder inquest remained unrevealed.

Mrs. Carl A. Weiss becomes widow after her husband Dr. Carl A. Weiss shoots Senator Huey Long in the Louisiana state house and is then slain by Long’s bodyguards. Weiss was son in law to an opponent of Long and the incident follows political feud in Baton Rouge.
Dr. Brinkley says Governor Tallmadge of Georgia will head the Share-the-Wealth Club replacing the late Senator Long and will broadcast speeches prepared for Long. Jas C Netts of the Chamber of Commerce spoke on Del Rio and its features during XEAW’s 72 hour broadcast.
Lawrence Anthony Prather of Albany, the Breckenridge contest champion, wowed onlookers by summoning hogs in the annual event. A former Oak Cliff High footballer and Oklahoma University geology student, Prather grew up near Dallas and now works as an oil concern office manager. His family has lived in Dallas for 30 years.
Bishop Hayes of Helena Montana was named rector of the American College in Rome on September 12. The appointment elevates the church leadership and solidifies ties between the American clergy and the Vatican institution.
Washington reports that on October 15 Germany will lose all U S tariff reductions in reciprocal trade pacts due to persistent discrimination against American imports. Secretary Hull notified German Ambassador Luther that all German imports after October 15 must pay the highest duties. Portugal Denmark and Italy have been warned since July.
Construction of the San Felipe Creek bridge slowed when relief labor was withdrawn on Thursday. Workers are expected to resume Friday morning. The sixth concrete slab is being poured this week, with full completion anticipated by October 1.
Gatesville officers and victims went to San Antonio to identify three youths held here for a holdup at Olson's garage last Friday. The trio was also being questioned in Georgetown and Alvarado holdups. Sheriff White traveled to San Antonio with J. P. King and Sam McCarver.
A group of smaller nations led by The Netherlands and Belgium backed Britain against Italian conquest of Ethiopia. They urged the League of Nations to uphold non-aggression as talks to sway Italy faltered. Britain ordered three battalions to Malta while Italy dispatched 5,900 troops to East Africa as Selassie praised the stand and League backing.
Edward L. Doheny 79, oil empire magnate, received final services at St. Vincent's Cathedral Los Angeles. Requiem mass was led by Cardinal Cantwell and Bishop Kelley with attendees from mining, domestic, and wealthy circles who knew him from his early mining days and later oil fortunes in the United States and Mexico.
Ed Wolf, 18, proprietor of a mighty thirst, won the Duncan water drinking contest by consuming 67 ten ounce glasses in 30 minutes. Jim Cantwell entered as a dark horse but faded to finish with 30 glasses.
Tentative drafts totaling 63411.28 have been approved in San Antonio and sent to Washington for final approval. County Judge Clarence Herreford said 60 workers will be employed for nine months on two road projects costing 14145.19 to the county and 49266.09 to WPA labor. One project covers 36 miles of farm to market roads near Del Rio and the other 41.7 miles of neighborhood roads including Blue Hill and Fielder roads. Additional county projects were refused. a third road project titled Fawcett and Whitehead road will be submitted soon from Highway 80 to Whitehead ranch.
Evelyn Hoey a 25 year old torch singer of Broadway Paris and London was found shot to death at the farm home of Henry Rogers Jr 29 son of a multimillionaire Rogers held on suspicion of murder after an argument and party noise with drinking reported. Chauffeur Frank Catano said Rogers claimed to be on the first floor when the shooting occurred. Witness William J Kelly a New Jersey married man was held as a material witness. Hoey had been a guest at the farm house for a week.
Washington dispatch reports army orders assigning Colonel Robert H. Lewis from Fort Sam Houston Texas to the newly organized 7th Field Artillery at Fort D.A. Russell Marfa Texas with the move effective October 1.
Buzzy Stokes district governor of Lions 13th District will attend the Del Rio gathering at the Roswell Hotel. The event, postponed from September 5 due to high waters, features John Loomis speaking on War Clouds Hanging Over Europe. A male quartet and Stunt coordinator E C Wellborn are also on the program. Lions and wives urged to attend.
Chief of Police Amos Humphrey said he had learned nothing about the killing of Linus W. Martin in Del Rio Tuesday. Investigations showed a Linus Martin once listed in city rolls was no longer a Del Rio resident and current whereabouts could not be determined. Humphrey was asked by telegraph Wednesday to report on the Tuesday killing.
About 175000 pounds of mohair brought 50 and 60 cents a pound in Del Rio warehouses. The Del Rio Wool and Mohair Co sold 100000 to 125000 pounds to Mark Campbell for Sanford Mills of Providence, R I, with grown hair at 50 cents and kid hair at 60 cents. Pro ducers Wool and Mohair Co moved 50000 pounds, including 40000 pounds of hold over mohair, and the balance from new dip stock.
West Texas mohair sales hit a new peak as 400000 to 1000000 pounds moved in Texas at 35 to 41 cents for grown hair and 9 cents higher for kid hair. Major buyers included Tor Richey, Tom Parker, Mickey Stephens, and J M Lea. Reports note offers of 40 cents for grown grades and 50 cents for bid, with sales mostly in country purchases and one car accumulations.
A San Felipe resident was fined $100 including costs in County Court Thursday morning for misdemeanor theft. The charge stems from reportedly stealing infants’ clothes left on a clothesline to dry.
Del Rio and vicinity expect fair conditions tonight with Friday partly cloudy skies. Yesterday’s high reached 85 degrees and the low was 60, while this morning’s minimum dipped to 63.
