The Associated Press reports Senator Richard B. Russell Jr. won the Democratic senatorial nomination in Georgia, defeating Governor Eugene B. Talmadge, an opponent of the New Deal. Attention shifts to Maine where Governor Louis J. Brann seeks White seat in the U.S. Senate race next Monday.
Roswell Lions Club luncheon at the Roswell Hotel drew about 34 members. George Netts on leave from the Naval Academy spoke on his Summer cruise as a midshipman abroad and answered questions about his trip. A fire prevention week committee was named and guests from Sonora attended.
Bishop William T. Capers of the Diocese of West Texas will be in Del Rio Sunday. He will celebrate Holy Communion at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church and confer with the vestry after the service. A sermon will follow at 8 p.m. in the church.

The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association board set December 3 and 4 in San Angelo for the annual convention with St Angelus Hotel as headquarters. President Roger Gillis presided, secretary G W Cunningham noted minutes, and about 164 members attended the noon barbecue at the San Felipe Country Club.
Secretary Hull announced that four American war vessels sent to assist in evacuating Americans from the revolution in Spanish waters were ordered withdrawn. Acting Detective Chief William Collins said he knew the kidnapper of Harry Brown, 20 months old, and expected to close in as the suspect was located in an Ohio tourist camp last night.
The regular September term of District Court will open in Brackettville on Monday September 14. The docket is expected to be light.
Los Angeles dispatch reports barber Robert James was sentenced today to hang for the murder of his seventh wife Mary. Prosecutors argued for a new trial citing misconduct by the prosecutors in the case.
Funeral services for Mrs Irene Jarrett age 50 wife of T J Jarrett of Juno were conducted Thursday at 10 am in the First Baptist Church with Rev L B Gilbert pastor officiating Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery
Mrs. Jarrett, born November 3, 1885 in Bosque County, died late Tuesday night on the Jarrett ranch 12 miles south of Juno 62 miles from Del Rio. Surviving husband Edward V. Jarrett son granddaughter Cora Jane Jarrett plus three sisters and four brothers. Funeral and directors meetings were postponed as offices closed out of respect.
Governor Alf M. Landon announced a dash to Portland Maine to deliver an address Saturday night as part of his Maine campaign. He said he would participate in the first fighting repudiation of Roosevelt policies, aiming to close the Republican campaign in Maine before the September 14 election.
Governor Allred issued a call for a special legislative session on September 28 to secure extra revenues for old age pension payments. The plan may include enabling legislation to extend Federal Security Act benefits to Texans, though he did not commit to that provision.
Salt Lake City report states the National Wool Growers Association urged Secretary Henry A. Wallace to probe packers practices in lamb purchases to detect possible collusion. It cites July lamb prices 15 percent below May while slaughter rose only 3 percent as evidence of restraint.

Two indictments returned by the Edwards County grand jury charge M. O. Grooms of Rocksprings with theft and embezzlement. Grooms, former cashier of First State Bank and former manager of Edwards County Wool and Mohair Warehouse Co, faces cases involving the Wool and Mohair Company and Leo Greer. The grand jury foreman was 8 S Henry. Trial set for the February 1937 term in Rocksprings District Court.
Will Cash a 56 year old pumper for the Southern Pacific at Pumpville was found shot to death Thursday at 3 am. A 22 rifle lay beside him and an inquest was held by Justice J Po Aderhold in De Rio at 6 am. Cash had 21 years railroad service starting at Langtry then Pumpville. He survived by three children and nine brothers and sisters including Louis Sam Winn Charlie of Del Rio and Gordon Oscar Lonnie Roy and Henry Cash with relatives awaiting funeral plans in Del Rio and Langtry.
Washington reports Franco formally acknowledged the possiblity that a rebel plane bombed the American destroyer Kane near Cadiz on August 30. He sent regrets but did not admit definite responsibility while Hull studies the reply for possible new representations.
In Sherwood and Mertzon a battle over the Irion County court house location escalates after a close vote favored Mertzon. The Irion County Commissioners and the 51st District Court took no decisive action, with adjournments until an official site is designated, as Sherwood residents fear loss of town life and status to Mertzon.
Mrs. M. A. Black aged 89 died in Uvalde at her daughter's home Wednesday. Widow of Rev. M. A. Black she was a longtime West Texas Methodist minister’s wife and grandmother of Co. Attorney Le Gilmer. Funeral planned for Rocksprings with two daughters Mrs. Edwin Dismuke of Uvalde and Mrs. S. H. Gilmer of Rocksprings and son Rev. J. N. Black of Austin surviving.
