State Democrats ended their convention after midnight amid factional fighting over tax and liquor planks. Senator Thomas Love, defeated gubernatorial candidate, led opposition to a statewide income tax repeal and backed a tax plan funded by traffic, while party members approved lighter planks and debated the platform conflicts.
At the State Democratic convention in Galveston yesterday the Western senatorial district caucus named a slate on behalf of Mr. Eter line. The action was overseen by a state executive committee member in Del Rio.
Congresman John N Garner, Democratic minority leader, will join the Democratic congressional committee in a drive to win a House majority. He plans to leave for Washington late September and conduct campaigns in doubtful districts across Ohio Indiana Pennsylvania Massachusetts and possibly New Jersey. Garner predicts a Democratic gain overturning the current Republican majority of 108 seats.

Wren, secretary of Ye Chamber of Commerce, named Val Verde County agent to process requests for freight rate reductions on livestock and feedstuffs. Appointed by County Judge Roger Thurmond and subject to confirmation by O B. Martin, relief official for the drought stricken area. A one third reduction on regular freight charges applies to feedstuffs moving into the drought area and to livestock moving to pasture, not to livestock headed for market. Southern Pacific has not yet been officially advised.
Otis Williamson 47, a Snyder hardware merchant and brother of Mrs. Jack Pauli, died Wednesday at his Snyder home. He visited his sister here often and left two children Lila Mae and Hida Jeas. Other survivors include his sister Mrs. A A Alien and brother Rob Williamson.
Dallas dispatch reports trials for 14 men charged with mob activity in Sherman on May 9, when the Grayson County courthouse was burned and a suspect who is a negro likely will be among those tried in the pending case.

Cecil Daniels of San Antonio was arrested on a liquor charge at Eagle Pass and is expected to appear for trial in Federal Court here on October 27.

Federal authorities seek statements and the group faces links to crimes across the Midwest after admitting they took a late model Oldsmobile from Kansas and drove it to Del Rio. One boy visited relatives in Del Rio and one carried a tear gas gun. Efforts aim to connect them to several Midwest offenses.

A Mexican and a Negro are to die in the electric chair at Huntsville Friday for murder unless Governor Moody intervenes. Luz G. Arcos, convicted for the murder of a merchant in Medtaington, and Luz Henry Vaughn, of Shamrock, are scheduled to die.
Range lambs rose 10 to 10 cents on the Kansas City market with prices for sheep about steady. Receipts totaled 1,000. Native fed steers and yearlings advanced to 25 cents, heavy weight steers mostly steady to a small rise, stockers and feeders steady. Top yearling price reached 12.40, and good to choice dealers sold from 8.50 to 10 dollars.
A Brownwood chamber delegation led by Hilton Burks and supporters from Brown County and nearby areas planned a 3 30 pm Chamber of Commerce meeting in Fort Worth to push federal designation for highway 10 from Del Rio to Denton. The route passes through Boecksprings Junction London Brady Brownwood Comanche Dublin Stephenville Granberry and Fort Worth. Weather caused delays for highway 16 caravan at Rocksprings.
A full audit of city books is now in progress under Mayor Jno. Y. Lone. The mayor expects completion within a week to ten days and a full report will be published locally. The City Commission met Tuesday night to plan improvements and noted that Alexa Williams, recently assisting City Clerk L. J. Bochat, has been released from temporary work. The city aims to employ as few people as possible as an economic measure.
Sept 10 San Benito reports Rio Grande flow remains ample despite drought nationwide. Secretary Robertson of the Valley Irrigation Districts says current supply exceeds demand by 30 to 50 percent, with river stage at Lacredo similar to spring peak and less than 70 percent of flow utilized.

A 44 year old widow was forced to ride with a masked Black man who struck her male companion into unconsciousness last night. Police say the suspect resembles a pattern of similar offenses in the area over recent weeks.
Federal high schools established in principal Mexican border cities. Villa Acuna authorities learn a high school is available in Piedras Negras for Villa Acuna graduates. Many rural schools in Villa Acuna and nearby counties are run by the federal government.
The bullet riddled body of Joe Atler, prize fighter and police character, was found in weeds on the outskirts of Kansas City. Police said he was wed elsewhere and his body dumped in the spot where found. The body bore three bullet holes.
A forest fire that burned a half mile through pine timber east of Bastrop was stopped by a heavy rain early today. The blaze threatened larger areas but was contained as precipitation saved nearby properties.
In Booneville Missouri on September 10 an escaped reformatory inmate Tom Vilski 22 abducted Superintendent C E Chrane and shot him during a pursuit near the city. A lynch mob threatened in the aftermath but officers hid the prisoner and ferried him to the state penitentiary in Jefferson City as authorities calm streets and search for further trouble.
J W Hutt publisher of the Rocksprings Record offered to aid the Del Rio Evening News after a fire damaged their plant. Hutt telephoned the News management placing his practically new plant at their disposal. Several West Texas papers offered help and an airplane could have been used to shuttle copy if needed.
Joyce Sheppard alias Bill Smith 28 was deemed sane by a district court jury in Anson. Judge W R Chapman set October 17 for execution for killing Two Fisher County officers in October 1927. Sheppard showed wild outbursts and escaped custody briefly during the hearing.
A British marine detachment arrived to relieve government troops in Santo Domingo as they begin the tedious task of restoring order after a storm.
Funeral services were held today for Homer Wilson a grocer found shot to death on a local farm near Chillicothe. A shotgun was discovered near the body following the discovery late Tuesday.

Firefighters used San Felipe water to save nearby buildings as wind hampered efforts to save the older structure.
An Austin report describes an 18 year old girl abducted by two 21 year old youths who forced her into a car, assaulted her, and left her along a railroad right of way.
