The Senate state affairs committee voted nine to six to indefinitely postpone a resolution for a Senate committee investigation of the Democratic primary. Proponents vowed to push for reporting the proposal, while yesterday the Senate referred the matter to committee.
Former State Senator Thomas B. Love predicted that Governor Ross Sterling would seek a district court ruling in Austin to review the entire primary. If granted, the court could order a full recount of every vote in the contest.
Mrs Mir iam Ferguson filed in the Supreme Court for a writ of mandamus to secure tabulations of the Democratic runoff primary vote cast in August. James E Ferguson says the action ensures compliance with election laws governing canvassing returns and reporting to the State Democratic convention in Lubbock on September 12.
The state highway department’s three million dollar emergency relief road program received tentative approval from the U S Bureau of Public Roads. Contracts to be let September 19 include nine miles of grading and drainage on the Hurley Silver City road in Grant County, oiling 12 miles of the Clovis Portales road in Roosevelt County, oiling 17 miles of the Carlsbad Caverns road in Eddy County, and grading 13 miles of the Roy Mosquero road in Harding County.
Big Lake Texas September 7 More than 15000 dollars representing 25 percent of the deferred deposits from the time the Big Lake First State Bank closed last Fall will be placed to the credit of the depositors before September 15 according to Karl Tate cashier Present deposits are 77000 more than they were a year ago at which time the bank owed 63000 Cash on hand now amounts to 80000 and loans have been reduced one fourth.

Governor Arthur Seligman of New Mexico says his son Otis will face charges without aid. He notes he would not help Otis or the nine other indicted former bank employees. Otis reportedly had $25,941 in the Santa Fe First National Bank shortage, later made good by the governor, who is bank president.
Hartman, Colorado man C. R. Hinton says a few directed words can avert crime after a bandit enters his store with a gun. He tells his wife to fetch the shotgun and threaten to shoot if needed, and the holdup flees.
LONDON Sept. 7 Sir Gilbert Parker 69 British novelist died last night following a heart attack at his home in London.
Abilene report says five people believed drowned in a torrential rain. Searchers recover an unidentified man and seek the bodies of Mrs. George Mullens and her three children swept away when their car stalled in flood water near Big Elm Creek. Mullens was rescued from a tree nearby. Highway traffic remains blocked by high water.
Reno report says Fay Webb Vallee declares no divorce will occur stating she loves her husband and will join him in New York after leaving for Santa Monica. The couple had recently acknowledged a separation amid public interest in their marriage.
Lawrence Latta of Del Rio will face trial in Uvalde on February 13 1933 for the murder of his wife Estelle Calli Latta. Judge Lee Wallace granted the continuance after defense attorneys illness delayed proceedings. Latta was granted bond under habeas corpus after wife was found shot to death in their apartment.
W D Carroll of Comanche former county auditor and Grand Master-elect of the Texas I O O F was arrested on conspiracy charges after a recount of August 27 ballots at Comanche box No 1. He posted $750 bond. The recount ordered by the county Democratic executive committee showed H L Stewart leading for county judge over B J Pittman and Mrs B W Speed leading over W D Starkie for tax collector.
A perfect twin cantaloupe was brought to town by E Reynolds of Biscoe Virginia. The fruit was a closely joined pair, identical in appearance and size, exhibiting remarkable symmetry.

National Geographic explorers Joseph McGoldrick and Lt. Commander Claude B Young began a river survey in the Big Bend region from Del Rio toward Langtry. Heavy rains raised the river, postponing the expedition for six weeks while the party photographed the canyons for later color reproduction.
Washington dispatch quotes Rev. Simon P. W. Drew predicting large black support for Jimmy Walker in New York mayoral race. If Walker runs again, 1,900,000 blacks in five boroughs will vote for him. if he does not run, Drew says he may enter the race.
A two year old boy, son of John Moore, crawled into a five gallon stone crack to escape a bath in Coeburn Virginia. The crack broke under his weight, causing a deep thigh wound exposing the hip bone and a bone deep cut to the right elbow. The incident left him severely injured.
Residents along Las Moras Creek evacuated as Brackettville faced three feet of floodwater after a cloudburst Tuesday. Evacuation aided by volunteer fire department crews amid continued heavy rain. Del Rio and surrounding areas reported rising waters and impassable highways.
The Rio Grande crest at Hidalgo surged through levee breaks flooding lowlands and threatening Hidalgo with a foot or two of water. Two American-side breaks reported near Mission and south of McAllen. Reynosa faces heavier flooding while Cameron County engineers report levees in good condition.
Hubert Jenkins of Louisville faces extradition on kidnapping charges tied to the removal of his 10 year old son Hugh Bradford Jenkins heir to Dallas Mayor Bradford's estate. Jenkins arrived in Louisville with his son. attorney contends no crime, only guardian death. Hearing possible if extradition pursued.
In Galveston Texas on East Beach a Red Cross life guard performed a triple rescue when a father and his three children were swept into a deep channel near the south jetty rocks. The father followed after them and all four clung to him before reaching safety.
The Federal government investigated the farm strike across the grain belt and found farmers cleared of Communist theories behind higher farm prices. United States Attorney Charles F. Saundall of the Western Nebraska district confirmed the finding, calling the strike a result of popular unrest from economic conditions and falling farm values.
Bay City wildcat oil well near Bay City halted its seven day spray after workers used high pressure pumps to stop the flow. The well identified as Standard No. 1 had spewed oil across the countryside until containment today.
