In Fredericksburg on September 6 the Trimble murder case moved toward jury deliberation. The state seeks a murder conviction for L E Trimble over the shooting of W R Tomlinson during a dispute over a Menard County pasture lease. Defense argues self defense. H B Opp is co defendant in the same case.
Carl Roy E. Mason of Dryden and Doc Everett of Comstock registered new automobiles with County Tax Assessor Lyle S. Almond on Thursday.
GONZAULLAS APPOINTED AUSTIN September 6. Lone Wolf Gonzaullas, longtime ranger, was named chief of the Bureau of Intelligence of the Public Safety Commission. May electrocution in Huntsville September 6. W. D. May, convicted of a triple slaying in Handley in 1933, was executed after midnight as the governor refused intervention. Exiled Mexican Jose Vasconcelos, in San Antonio, said he would join any organized force ready to oppose the current government once informed of rebel manifesto received by the Senate.
Memphis High School plans an extensive vocational agricultural department for 1936 under the Smith Hughes act. The program will be funded half by state and federal governments and will include tin work, farm mechanics, wood work, stock judging, educational tours, exhibits, summer encampment, and agricultural surveys. The 12 month instructor will also organize adult classes for farmers and focus on project and club work in summer.
Clovis New Mexico will switch to a lethal gas chamber to euthanize dogs at the pound. City Manager John C Beals says the sheet metal chamber can hold 12 dogs and natural gas will be released through a vent to kill them quickly.
Val Verde Wool and Mohair Company sold 300 000 pounds of 12 month wool at 26 1 4 cents a pound on Thursday to Tom Richey of A W Hilliard and Son of Boston. The sale clears the Val Verde warehouse of all accumulation except the daily incoming Fall clips.
Mme. Ernestina Schumann-Heink signs a three year deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to be starred in several films, the studio announced.
Nancy Carroll a redhaired motion picture star filed suit for a Nevada divorce in Carson City charging Bolton Mallory with non support and cruelty.
In Geneva on September 6, French delegates announced a League of Nations subcommittee to address the Italo-Ethiopian crisis with France Britain Spain Turkey and Poland. Italian delegate Baron Aloisi protested Professor Jeze’s speech and Italian walkout shadows. The International Federation of Trade Unions urged full league sanctions and planned US cooperation as Italian troops move toward East Africa.

Austin September six. James A. Clark editor from Beaumont was named chief of the executive section in the Texas Secretary of State office. He succeeds W. W. Halcomb who left with Gerald C. Mann to Washington after Mann resigned to join the Texas Planning Board as a representative.
Mohair receipts at the Schreiner Wool & Mohair Commission Co warehouse stood at 150,000 pounds as of Wednesday. The clip is described as heavy and of good quality, with wool expected to begin arriving by late September.
Val Verde County students must sing the theme song "School days" to start the new term with proper tone, while most schools open for fall registration Monday morning except Sacred Heart Academy which began Wednesday. Del Rio and San Felipe districts appoint new superintendents Gilberto Cerda and R M Bankhead respectively. Supt B H Hill marks eighth year at Comstock. Langtry's five teacher setup led by EB S Key with Lillie Birdwell Mildred Griffin and Alva C Bell. Pumpville ward school led by Edwina Sandel. One teacher schools Pandle Juno Jones taught by Nancy Belle Lattimore Day Alva Godwin Berneice Rains.
About 14 Hale County 4-H Club boys will feed 65 pure bred Hereford baby beeves this year in a large scale project. Calves come from R. B. Echols Matador ranch herd. County Agent W. W. Evans and a Hale County committee arranged the plan. Boys will buy calves and feed them in a six month dry lot program.
Canyon deputy game warden L A Proctor placed 1800 fish in Canyon Country Club streams, bringing total stocked to 4000. Prof H Condron of West Texas State Teachers College supervised the effort, with more fish to be supplied by Federal hatcheries.
Langtry district trustees met Thursday with County Superintendent W F Jourdan to finalize plans for the opening of the Fair term on Monday.
The Devil's River State Park may host a small fish hatchery as part of planned park developments. Col. R. O. Whiteaker of the State Parks Board in Austin said the project and other improvements would be considered and welcomed citizen suggestions. The park will be named Devil's River State Park, though the board had previously called it De Rio State Park.
Burkburnett Texas September 6 Mrs John G Hardin died at her home after a life spent donating millions to Texas colleges and charities She was 77 and supported Hardin-Simmons University Mary Hardin Baylor College of Women Wichita Junior College Buckner Orphan Home Baylor University Abilene Christian College and related institutions.
The sale of 200000 pounds of long wool Thursday cleared the Producers Wool and Mohair Company of all accumulations. C. B. Dutch Wardlaw, Jr. announced the sale on Friday. D Stokes for Winslow and Company bought the accumulation at 25.4 to 26.5 cents a pound.
Governor O K Allen ordered state police to seize all slot machines in Louisiana as Senator Huey P Long denounced the devices as violating state gambling law. Superintendent Louis F Guerre said he would lead a state wide crusade after reports of widespread violations.
Spofford resident Mrs H A Luce sustained a severe shaking up and a facial cut when her car overturned near her home outside Bracketville on September 6.
A candidate likely to unite anti Huey Long forces for the Democratic senatorial nomination in Louisiana’s January primaries is hinted to be Representative John N. Sandlin of Minden Ta. Sandlin, a former judge, has served eight terms in the House.
Sealed bids were opened in San Antonio on Friday for CCC buildings to support Devil's River State Park on Lake Walk. Ten percent bid security required. Plans include a 136 foot barracks or two 72 foot barracks, mess hall, headquarters, storeroom, officers office, infirmary and store house with labor rates at 75 cents per hour for skilled and 50 cents for unskilled workers.
In Madison Wisconsin on September 6 a 12 year old known as Dog skin Johnson received five thousand dollars after ten years of imprisonment for a murder he did not commit. Governor LaFollette signed a bill awarding the payout following the convict's pardon. Dogskin had confessed to killing Annie Lemberger whose nude body was found at Lake Mendota in 1911 but later recanted, alleging coercion. Investigation showed his innocence and he was released after serving a decade.
The top price in wool this week went to Mrs. A Markward for 20,000 pounds of long wool. She sold the accumulation to Tom Richey of A W Hilliard and Son for 27 cents per pound.
Ernest J Boyett of Kimble County announced he will seek election as sergeant-at-arms of the Texas House of Representatives to succeed for White of San Antonio. White has been named inspector in the railroad commission motor transportation division. Boyett previously served as assistant sergeant at arms and is the House custodian.
Heavy rains in Sonora push flood warnings along the Lower Rio Grande with 24 foot peak levels and 300000 cubic feet per second flow. Water covers highways as Eagle Pass and Del Rio report receding, while authorities forecast open routes within days and repair on Lozier bridge begins.
State Highway Commission plans a new higher wider bridge across the Llano River to replace the 800 foot steel span washed out by the June flood. A temporary low water bridge handles traffic on Highways 81 and 29 linking Llano town. Paving of about eight blocks of Bridge Street in Llano is planned as part of the updated routing.
Traffic flows again on the South Loop after flood damage from Rio Grande backwaters. A small section east of Hope Farm was undermined and closed Tuesday afternoon, with the county repaving and reopening the road by Friday morning.
W. E. Stroud sentenced to life for the April 16, 1935 murder of his wife in Childress County filed an appeal Thursday in the Court of Criminal Appeals. Mrs Stroud was stabbed to death with an ice pick. Ruth Dew, convicted in McCulloch County of liquor possession, also appealed her three year sentence.
Winnie Moore, a few days in Carrizo Springs with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moore from Lamesa, was badly burned today when hot lye water splashed on her legs and feet while scrubbing floors.
