Dr John R Brinkley Mrs Brinkley and their son Johnnie were welcomed home at a Roswell Hotel banquet after a Del Rio vacation. They cruised the Eastern Seaboard aboard the yacht Dr Brinkley II and fished a 690 pound record catch off Liverquinen. The voyage included Anticosti Island and Yale Harvard boat races on the Thames.
Veterans camps in the Florida Keys were swept away by a Gulf hurricane. A Miami Red Cross report estimated 400 to 500 dead as high waves and floodwaters crushed the camps and washed people into the sea. Coast guard planes and evacuations aided by all government forces.
Stuart MacDonald of Missouri, currently acting administrator, is expected to receive the permanent appointment as head of the Federal Housing Agency. The resignation of James A. Moffett, delivered over two months ago, surprised the White House and led to MacDonald’s interim role.
Sacred Heart Academy welcomed 105 students on opening day as Del Rio area districts prepare for registrations. San Felipe District hosts a Thursday teacher institute with Friday registrations and Monday classes. Del Rio Independent District plans 9 a.m. elementary and 8:30 a.m. sophomore registrations with 1 p.m. senior slots. The district’s end of month totals last year reached about 1,479, nearing 1,500 midyear.
General rains drenched Del Rio and surrounding territory through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning washing out bridges and hindering travel. Quemado reported three to five inches, while 1.5 inches fell in Del Rio and flood waters swept the crib bridge near Sanderson. An east bound passenger train was delayed seven hours for repairs.
No 3 extends west to Dryden where a bridge washed out a few miles west of town delaying repair work. Road shoulders sustained damage from the downpour. Traffic bound for Eagle Pass rerouted around Brackettville as Sycamore Creek overflowed. No 30 to Sonora remained passable but San Pedro Creek rose and motorists were urged to delay travel. Highway 3 east to San Antonio was in good condition.

It also ponders a drop wearing away rock, Mussolini’s oil lease in Ethiopia, a Missouri man seeking WPA loans for teeth, and other miscellany including a Wyoming university Recreational Ranching program and Huey Long book comparisons.
Partly cloudy tonight and Thursday with high of 83 yesterday and a low of 71 yesterday. Minimum this morning 72. West Texas shows cloudy conditions with possible showers in the extreme west tonight and Thursday. East Texas has clouds with showers in the south and cooler readings inland tonight, with Thursday cloudy and showers near the west coast.
Lifeboats swung from rescue ships toward the stranded liner Dixie with 372 aboard as four vessels including the El Occidente Limon Platano and Reaper converge in rough seas. Captain Sundström reports all well though transfers remain hampered by wind and fog.
Mrs. R. H. Hamilton of Amarillo and an unnamed man believed to be C. A. Ensinger died after two cars collided at the Dallas & Northwest Highway and Fort Worth-Denton road near Roanoke. W. E. McMurty of Longview was believed dying, while Hamilton's wife and daughter Mary 18 were seriously injured in a Dallas hospital.
In Hyde Park on September 4 the President ordered all emergency Federal agencies under the budget bureau to curtail personnel, stating the peak emergency had passed. In Dallas on September 4 Elliott Roosevelt resigned as first vice-president of the Young Democrats of Texas amid pressure for a native Texan to hold the post.
Confederate veterans agreed to set aside differences and join the Grand Army of the Republic for a joint Civil War veterans reunion at Gettysburg Pennsylvania in 1938. The invitation was accepted for the battlefield site where about 30 000 soldiers died.
Four registrations for automobiles were recorded in the county tax assessor collector's office on Tuesday the only ones for September. Registrants include E M Zuberbueler of Comstock Edward Arrendondo of Del Rio Dave Cooper of Del Rio and A F Haley of Comstock.

Geneva Sept 4 Italy filed a memorandum with the League of Nations Council declaring Ethiopia outside the League and listing four violations. They accuse Ethiopia of not defining frontiers with Italian colonies, infringing Italian representatives immunity, hindering Italian citizens economic ventures, and attacking Italian lives goods and citizens including in Italian territory. Anthony Eden assured no clash with Britain and Italy. Paris talks report offered to the League.
Rochester Mayo Clinic physicians expressed renewed confidence that United States Senator James Couzens of Michigan would recover after surgery to remove his left kidney. The statement came as the senator continues to receive care in Rochester Minnesota.
