He was held a month and tortured with cigarets and binding. Police arrested Salvatore Mancuso, his wife Nelle Mancuso, and Dominick Gelferno on kidnapping and conspiracy charges.

Aus tin officials approve a sewing program in the McLellan building to employ 25 to 30 needy women. Materials are issued in the sewing room and garments will be distributed to the needy this Winter, replacing a home sewing plan.
A San Diego fishing boat exploded while moored at Embarcadero. One man, Frank Princapalo, died and two others were burned and injured. Three crewmen are missing and presumed drowned after the blast likely ignited by a gasoline line leak. The cause remains undetermined and officials search for the missing.
Attorney Robt M Lyles explains the proposed 62000 bond issue to fund civic improvements in Del Rio with a 16000 government grant. He argues the bonds are repaid from waterworks revenues under federal oversight, creating jobs and expanding fire and water facilities without new taxes.

Port Arthur report states Mrs. Priscilla Wilson, widow of Sabine Pass Lighthouse builder John Wilson, died at her Orange home. Born before the Texas independence war era, she aged 96 and would have turned 102 in November. Her husband died 23 years earlier.
A Senate bid to adjourn the special relief session at midnight Saturday was defeated in the House. Both chambers promptly resumed probes into relief expenditures as they prepared to consider bills issuing state relief bonds. The House defeated the Senate adjournment resolution 86 to 35.
County director T L Dinsdale reports no instructions to start the government purchase plan. Applications must be summarized and sent to George W Barnes at College Station for state and county quota calculation before buying begins. About 100 applications filed. no freshly shorn sheep or goats under one year accepted. Angora goats fetch 140 dollars, older goats 2 dollars.
W C Freeman father of C B Freeman of Del Rio died unexpectedly Tuesday in San Antonio. The Freeman family departed for the city to attend funeral services, expected Wednesday. The deceased was well known in Del Rio and had visited the town often.
Austin reports Sam Rayburn once from Fannin County and boy speaker in 1911 was endorsed by the House as a candidate for Speaker of the National Congress. The resolution invites him to address a joint session of the Legislature.
L G Bell, about 43, a lineman for Texas Utilities Company, fell to his death from a light pole in a residential alley in Lubbock shortly after 9 this morning. He suffered an electric shock and died en route to a local hospital.
John Smiuske received a six month jail term for throwing naphtha on a satirical painting that mocked the New Deal and the Roosevelt family. The incident occurred during an exhibition in Tarrytown, New York, where Smiuske said he ruined the work because he disapproved of ridiculing the Roosevelts.
Colp and Neff arrive in Del Rio to review six proposed park locations near the city. Each site reportedly has 8,000 gallons daily water capacity and at least 500 acres, meeting state park requirements. The group may discuss preserving Langtry’s Roy Bean saloon as a potential historical site.

Twenty three head of cattle were received in Del Rio by relief officials Monday under the governments cattle buying program. The total purchased for shipment to Val Verde County reached 3935. Fewer than half have been slaughtered and purchases have fallen since the new plan limited daily shipments to 15000 head for 234 drought counties. In Val Verde County only 185 head were purchased in the last two weeks.
Farmers in Malakoff report premature cotton opens and a very short crop due to drought. They say corn and sweet potatoes are also severely affected, with many crops a total loss.
