O'Bryant and continuing members Richard Baker Hernan Cadena and H. T. Dodd. The board also classified local districts. Del Rio and San Felipe independents plus Comstock and Langtry common districts run 11 grade schools. Juno Paydale Pumpville and Jones districts operate 7 grade schools.
Cloudy conditions prevail in Del Rio and surrounding areas with a likely chance of rain tonight. Prior day highs reached 94 degrees, with a minimum of 76 degrees yesterday and 78 degrees this morning.
Reports from Cuba indicate the tropical storm is tracking north to northwest with greater danger to Key West than Havana. In Santa Fe, Frank Allen, driver of the car carrying Mrs. Harold Ickes, died without giving authorities an explanation of the crash. In Denton, the unexplained disappearance of R M Barns Jr. alarms his parents as he was last seen early Sunday driving home with Luther Allen, the night watchman.
Mrs Martha Petty Casey aged 57 of a ranch near Laguna died at 2 a m Sunday at the home of Mrs E T Calk 510 Converse Del Rio Burial was at Nueces Cemetery Live Oak Uvalde County Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 30 officiated by Mrs Mary Rachford pastor of the Full Gospel Church Del Rio She was born Pearsall January 15 1878 and married to Charles Edward Casey She survived by an adopted seven year old daughter and brothers Ed William Andrew Dave James Martin and Howard and sisters Cordelia Casey E T Calk George Haley and J B Barfield all of Del Rio.
Red Cross launches campaign to establish first aid stations along major north south highways in Pacific Coast States. A L Schafer says 36000 people were killed on American highways last year and the goal is to cut this toll with roadside aid centers.
The Val Verde County budget for 1936 calls for a 44 cent per hundred dollar valuation tax rate, more than doubling the 20 cent rate of 1935, with total output of 97 505.84 and an expenditure shift of 1300. Adoption occurred at a special Commissioners Court meeting and awaits final approval at the next regular session on September 9.
Guglielmo Marconi announced in Italy that his experiments with ultra short waves are in an advanced stage and may revolutionize warfare by paralyzing aircraft warships and land vehicles. He spoke while volunteering for army service in East Africa.
In Pelzer South Carolina violence erupted as strikers attacked workers near the Pelzer Manufacturing Company mills. Bertha Kelly 21 mother of two was killed and at least 15 wounded in a five minute gunbattle. J P McDougall and his son were wounded at the No 4 plant. About 500 bullets were fired as pickets clashed with workers. Governor Johnston sent two National Guard companies to the scene.
An unidentified young brunette invaded a late dinner party in Los Angeles and shot Joseph Walsh, 39, a liquor salesman, causing a critical chest wound before fleeing. Guests recalled she proclaimed the state of affairs prior to the shooting as police investigated Walsh’s account of not recognizing the assailant.
Three killed in a Western Air Express plane crash after takeoff for Salt Lake City. Pilot George Sherwood, 39, co pilot Fred Burlew, 35, and stewardess Donna Naylor, 22, died as the craft struck a high tension wire and burned near a ranch barn while attempting to return to the field amid strong winds. The aircraft carried 17 sacks of mail.
El Paso Sept 2 hundreds of men labored to reinforce levees near Tornillo thirty four miles south of here as the Rio Grande crest reached its worst since 1925. Relief agencies failed to aid about a thousand homeless near Fabens after levee breaks and damages to homes and crops in the Fabens area were put unofficially at about half a million dollars.

Dr and Mrs John R Brinkley and son Johnnie return to Del Rio after an 11 week trip mostly aboard their yacht along the northeast coast. The family recounts a yacht grounding off Yarmouth and the planned December reopening of XER after extensive repairs.
The Sonora Wool and Mohair Company led Texas wool sales by topping 29 to 30 cents a pound for 400000 pounds graded wool bought by Robert M Pitt Co and partners, with about 100000 pounds already shipped. Other sales included 350000 pounds French combing wool at 26 cents and 250000 pounds moved from Rosell NM to Boston, while mohair activity hinted at strong demand.
Dallas September 27 L C Phares chief of the Texas Highway Patrol was named acting director of the Department of Public Safety and will lead the state's new modernized police system.
Addiss Ababa September 2 6 percent British French and Italian ministers meeting with Emperor Haile Selassie urged recall of an oil and mineral concession to an American corporation. The emperor asserted his sovereign rights within his realm and prayed peace on all.
Paris officials say Premier Laval gave sanctions a cool reception as Anthony Eden sought French promise for joint action in the Italo Ethiopian dispute. Eden met Laval after arriving for talks to report on the Tri Power Conference failure to prevent war.
Governor James V. Allred will speak in Del Rio on November 15 after a hunting trip with Adjutant General Carl Nesbitt, Raymond Brooks, Ed Rowlett, and Rep. Stanford Payne. The visit includes stops in Marfa Alpine Sanderson Del Rio Fort Clark Brackettville with a military salute at Fort Clark.
Unofficial complete returns from 231 counties show state wide prohibition repeal with a 50 315 vote margin. Total counted votes amount to 539 480 with 293 728 in favor and 245 752 against. Five counties—Borden McMullen Robertson San Patricio Yoakum—unreported. July 1934 total from them 7 786. Hidalgo Titus and DeWitt counties did not report.
