Joseph Walden Bailey Jr a candidate for the United States Senate is set to speak in Del Rio on the evening of June 14. The appearance comes two weeks from today as he campaigns locally.
Funeral services for Mrs Annie Elizabeth Flatry 74 are set for 5 P M today at Doran Chapel with Rev Claude Hill and Rev B D Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. She died Wednesday at 12 15 P M at her sister’s home after a long illness. She was born January 23 1860 in Mobile Alabama and lived in Del Rio since 1882. She was married twice and leaves two children two sisters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rio Grande City May 31 investigation opened into deaths tied to a 26 year feud. Sheriff G A Guerra requested help from Captain Jim Robbins and four Rangers after a crowd of about 500 sparked shootings and stabbings during a campaign gathering.
A Sonora man was released under 500 bond and bound over to the grand jury on charges of driving while intoxicated after he allegedly struck and demolished a Mexican's wagon on Loop Road Wednesday evening. The Mexican filed charges Thursday and the Sonora man posted bond.
Fort Worth May 31 Murder charges against Billie Mace 21 sister of Bonnie Parker and Floyd Hamilton were dismissed in Criminal District Court. Ballistic tests showed the bullets that killed two state highway patrolmen came from a gun found in Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker's death car.

W A Turner a Civil War Confederate veteran about 90 died at 1 am Thursday in Brownwood after a winter visit to Del Rio He had recently visited Del Rio and died while staying with relatives Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at a Brownwood area home Survivors include Mrs J P Wethington and Miss Zoe Turner who are Turner’s daughters The Turners left for Brownwood early Thursday after learning of his death
Amon G Carter publisher of the Fort Worth Star Telegram and his 14 year old son Amon Jr travel from Fort Worth to Del Rio for a camping trip. Carter insists the trip is private and not news or political business.
The local American Legion post will hold its regular meeting at 8 o'clock tonight in the Elks Club, announced by J. B. Fuquay.
Senator Gerald Nye endorses the Clarence Darrow National Recovery Review Board findings, arguing the report supports accusations of monopoly under the Blue Eagle while NRA officials reportedly dislike it.
The 11th Federal Reserve District notes April business intact with retail sales down 12 percent from March yet 16 percent above 1933. Commercial failures declined year over year, while agriculture improved after late rains and cotton planting nears completion. Building permits rose 2 percent from March but lagged six percent versus last year.
AUSTIN May 31 F T Connerly aged 64 and longtime clerk of the State Supreme Court for 32 years died today after a long illness. He had been connected with the court for 46 years. SAN ANTONIO May 31 Two killed and a third gravely injured when detectives attempt to arrest a suspect ended in a car crash and the fugitive shooting. John Sizelman buyer killed. Milton Sizelman injured. NEW YORK May 11 The U S fleet of 96 ships and 40 000 men paraded before President Roosevelt in a major naval pageant off Ambrose Lightship near the harbor.
Two men robbed the People's National Bank of Kingfisher of 1000 dollars, escaping westward. No further details provided on suspects or pursuit.
Building permits issued in Del Rio for the first five months of the year total $33,437, nearly triple the $12,542 from the same period last year. Additions and repairs amount to $8,16, new residential buildings $650, and new non residential buildings $24,371. The largest permit, $20,000, went to the State highway department for offices and a warehouse on Gibbs Street.
Bolivia asks the League of Nations to arbitrate the Chaco conflict with Paraguay. Bolivian delegate Dureals invokes article 13 for arbitration while Paraguayan Caballero Bedoya rejects arbitration as a trap to a nation’s good faith. Dureals then seeks settlement under article 15, allowing council recommendations without the disputing parties’ vote.
In Woodbridge New Jersey on May 31 a reckless driving suspect caused a three car collision on State Highway 25. Three women died and six others including a child were seriously hurt with two potentially dying. One car veered into a truck and two women were decapitated by the truck wheels.
Refugio residents Cu cu Garcia and Robert Boone sustained cuts and scrapes after a car swerved at East Lasella Street near Everybody's Cafe between midnight and 1 a m Thursday. Boone required brief hospital care but was released. Jimmy Kyle’s parked car sustained damage though no occupant was hurt.
Sonora voters will decide June 16 on a bond issue not to exceed 4700 dollars to fund part of a municipal building. The rest of the 5100 dollar project will be a grant from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. Harold Ickes signed an agreement to use 20 year bonds as loan security. City rent funds will retire the bond debt. Mayor W C Gilmore cites a 3900 loan and 1200 grant as the split.
San Angelo candidate E. E. Pat Murphy kicked off his speaking campaign Wednesday night to win the Texas 21st district seat. The district spans Val Verde and 26 other counties in the state.
E. E. Murphy spoke to about 400 in Greenwood Park praising tariff reform and equal patronage distribution. Judge Foster introduced him, calling Murphy a trained, fair representative while Murphy urged a nonpartisan approach and pledged support for Roosevelt as he outlined his 20 years of government study and experience.
In London reports dated May 31, E. L. Cord, American auto and airplane magnate, describes to acquaintances three kidnap attempts aimed at his Beverly Hills family. He notes Cord has been in England since mid April, aligning with the California Gettle and Arizona Robles abductions. An airplane involved plot led California police chiefs to advise the family stay abroad for an extended visit.
A Memorial Day observance in Del Rio featured a parade forming at Greenwood Park and proceeding through Main Street to Westlawn Cemetery. The event included a cemetery ceremony with prayers, talks by local officials, a roll call of war dead, firing squad salute, taps, and the Star Spangled Banner performed by the Del Rio Municipal Band.
Frank J. Schmidt city parks superintendent appealed to Del Ricans to avoid dumping brine water on Moore Park grass and trees. He noted several fine ficus trees and patches of grass had died after saltwater from cream containers was discarded by picnickers.
