Julian LaCrosse of Dallas was elected president of the Texas Elks State Association at the convention in Galveston. N J Nanney of Breckenridge nominated LaCrosse. the vote was 4-22 with Galveston named for 1931 and Temple inviting for 1932. Installation followed, with Curtis Gano speaking on lodge welfare and ritual care.

The Zeppelins Giraffe Zeppel inched into Lakehurst New Jersey after a fierce storm battered the airship en route from Brazil. Commander Eckener described violent winds near Bermuda last night as the dirigible endured a historic aerial ordeal.
At an Elks gathering Austin Callan of Houston urged voters to back the Republican ticket to oust the Democrat. He praised Hugh Exum of Amarillo as a capable executor and businesslike leader, saying he would elevate Texas governance above factional wrangling and deliver broad executive ability.
James P. Jimmie Rogers of Houston visits the Elks convention and states that the state should submit the pond issue and liquor question to a vote. He adds he can work with any gubernatorial candidates currently in the race.
Charies Coombes of Stanford was elected president of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce unit in Abilene. The convention approved most resolutions on state issues, including tariffs on West Texas raw products and a constitutional amendment allowing counties to tax University of Texas lands. The tariff measure drew debate before passage, with Orville Bullington and Chester Harrison among speakers. A UT land tax resolution was adopted 65 to 4 for a November vote.
The piece recalls 1909 Del Rio rivalries between Del Rio Red, Brackettville and Uvalde with Sticks McCormick and Cotton Knaupp joining Del Rio that year. It notes McCormick later managed Victoria in 1911, Denison in 1912, Flint Michigan in 1914, served in World War I, and became district clerk of Bexar County and Eagles president. Funeral services were held in Pearsall Thursday for Frank Rhodes age 45 brother in law of Fletcher Lowe of Del Rio. Rhodes was found dead in his room at Refugio Thursday morning according to reports from Pearsall. He is survived by his mother his widow two sisters and a brother.
Rostine Cecil Phfeister and Lester Archer, both 19 to 21 from Sonora, were seriously injured when a car tried to pass another vehicle and collided head on with a bus on the international bridge near Williams Sanitarium. Fourteen bus passengers were uninjured.
Texas Ranger Captain Tom Hickman departs June 8 with the Simmons University band for a tour of England and Europe to reach the London Evening Standard and refute a London story about a Sherman mob incident. Governor Dan Moody denounces the article as libel on Texas womanhood and the state, denying allegations of courthouse arson and public nudity in Grayson County.
Two unclad men robbed the Grand Avenue State Bank in Dallas forcing an employee to open the vault and escaping with about 4000 in cash. They bound three workers before fleeing in a confiscated car. Bank officials Roy OBrien WE Miller and Weldon Miller were present.
A Madrid bullfighting fan told a correspondent that bullfighting is the most honest outdoor spectacle. He cited Primo Carnera’s boxing debarment and said no method has been found to bribe a bull to avoid attacking the bullfighter.

Laredo resident L. A. Neff captured the Elk’s golf tournament title at the San Felipe Country Club on Friday afternoon. Dallas’ S. C. Schultz finished as runner up in the event that surprised the newcomer to golf.
Commencement exercises for the graduating class of 1930 at Del Rio High School took place Friday evening in the First Baptist Church before a full house. Gerald Duke, J. O. Taylor, Willa Mae Wharton, and Mary Irene Mayfield led the processional. Mrs Earl Miller gave the selected music and the Rev Fr G M Cartier, OMI gave the invocation.
A mob of about 500 men tried to lynch Henry Argo, a Black man believed to have attacked a white woman. After gunfire and stabbings, the jail was burned, Argo was shot, and authorities evacuated him to safety amid machine gun fire and tear gas.
Del Rio and vicinity predict cloudy skies with thundershowers tonight and Sunday. West Texas remains cloudy with local thundershowers. East Texas reports mostly cloudy conditions with local showers in the west, becoming warmer through the period.
