Funeral services for George Wilburn Dub Miers age 26 were held at 11 a m Thursday at the Lon Willis home in Del Rio with Rev. Roland Murray officiating. Interment followed in West Lawn Cemetery. Miers died Tuesday night in a two car collision on the Sonora road about 20 miles north of Del Rio. He was born in Del Rio April 6 1909 and raised there. Survivors include his mother Mrs Lon Willis a brother Hussie Miers and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs John Galloway.
Four of the five Mexicans in the Del Rio Hospital after a wreck on the Sonora road Tuesday night were discharged Thursday. Raymond Ramirez remained with a broken leg and severe nose injury, while Casmiro Zapata was only slightly hurt. Seferin Andrada died four hours after arrival.
The week ending May 18 brought 5.68 inches of rainfall in De Leon, a new one week record. Unterraced land sustained heavy damage while year to date precipitation reached 19.74 inches, surpassing the 1934 total of 18.18 inches.
Seattle Times reports positive information that the $280000 ransom for 9 year old George Weyerhaeuser was assembled at the Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle and sent to the family. Kidnappers were believed to be contacted and the boy expected to be released today or tomorrow.
May 30 Fort Worth reports Frank Wynne 27 master of the small boys dormitory at Masonic Home and School drowned in the Trinity River below Lake Worth spillway while attempting to rescue three bewildered boys. The youths reached the bank safely as Wynne was swept downstream by the current.
Partly cloudy tonight and Friday in Del Rio and vicinity. Yesterday's high reached 84 and low 65. This morning's minimum was 71 with a west Texas breeze shaping the conditions.
In Lubbock on May 30 the sheriff W F Cato faces a jury over the death of Narcotic Agent Spencer Stafford. The government accuses him of malice in his heart after he machine-gunned Stafford at Post on February 7. Arguments proceed as the case nears jury reach.
Governor Allred said he would request extradition from Louisiana for Rev. Edgar Eskridge charged with shooting Police Chief Ed J. O'Reilly to death in Orange. Eskridge is jailed in Deridder Louisiana.
W E Burke, who has supervised Tom Green County relief work for one year, has become District No 2 engineer for the State Relief Commission, taking on duties in San Angelo.
Governor Allred grants a reprieve for Lewis Cernoch until July 12, delaying the execution for the Granger slaying of H. J. Lindsey. The delay comes as the record awaits review by the governor and the Board of Pardons. The governor also vetoed the San Jacinto River district plan and a Palo Duro Canyon board and new district attorney salary scales.
Governor Allred signed the general judiciary appropriation bill in Austin, allocating 3,898,000 dollars for the next biennium. The report notes the measure targets funding for court operations and legal services, impacting state judiciary functions.

Development of deep water port facilities moves forward as two pipelines are proposed to serve Brownsville. Cortez Oil Company plans an 85 mile line from Samfordyce to Brownsville and Port Isabel, while Ralph H. Fair and associates in Dallas plan a six inch line from Lamardyce field to Port Isabel or Brownsville, plus a $250000 cracking plant. Engineers conduct surveys along the Rio Grande route.
London May 30. Germany today submitted the draft of a plan for a Western European air pact and stated that replies would require Germany to join a general armaments and security agreement and return to the League of Nations. The draft was sent to Britain France Italy and Belgium.
AUSTIN May 3 Rep Homer Leonard of McAllen chair of the House appropriations committee says eleemosynary institutions face difficulties from higher prices. He criticizes rising costs despite Board of Control efforts and notes wholesale prices in 1935 were up about one third from 1932, with meals up 13% beef doubling and bacon up 170%.
Virgil Anthony about 30, a truck driver, was seriously injured in a head-on collision yesterday on highway 66 about 10 miles north of Burnet. The other vehicle involved was another truck.
Del Rio kicked off its 11th Annual Championship Rodeo with a picturesque Thursday parade. Seventy contestants from near and far rode past parade officials, city crews, a military band, and the Fort Clark monkey drill team as downtown shops closed to permit attendance. Officials predicted Saturday would draw the largest crowd with many visitors.
A general meeting of sheep and goat men and all interested in the industry will be held Friday at 10 am in Val Verde County courthouse. All sheep and goat men and any one interested are urged to attend.
The tug Russell 2d collided with the motorship Chester in the Hudson River near Highland Falls New York causing the vessel to sink. Fisherman Thomas Moran and Siver Anderson were trapped and died in the sinking.
