No definite agreement emerged from a morning conference with bloc leaders that had tentatively earmarked funds for public works flood control highway construction and other projects totaling 505.9 million of the 1.5 billion requested.
In Houston Stafford a man identified as R F E Rutledge was shot to death by three assailants who robbed him of two sacks of money. In Galveston Mrs Ida Mae Schrenck aged 19 was shot to death in her sleep as her mother watched, with her estranged husband Dan M Schrenck sought as the principal suspect. In Washington congressional leaders voiced doubt about enacting the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1937 this session, while favoring the ever normal granary plan and retention of the soil conservation program offering half a billion dollars to farmers.
Mrs Mary Ann Wilson widow of W H Wilson died Friday night at 11 15 in the Del Rio home of her son in law and daughter Mrs O R Barker Funeral services are set for Saturday at 5 at the Barker residence with Rev L B Gilbert officiating Interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery Dorarr Funeral Home directed She resided in Del Rio about 20 years born November 29 1855 and survived by three sons three daughters 10 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren three brothers and a sister
The Del Rio High School senior class honors list includes Ernest Lee Wehner Annie Wilson Ruth Peterson Julia Lee Daniel and Ruth Holdeman with top averages. Honorable mention goes to Vernon Wellborn Hazel Arledge Wilma Joyce Avant Betty Brown Gamaliel Draper Brancie McBee Roma Poole Joy Ray Blanca Robledo Mamie Sadler Florence Terrell for averages between 85 and 90 over three years.
The general assembly of United States Presbyterian Churches approved a 13 month calendar with 28 days each and sent it to 276 Presbyteries for study before adoption as a group recommendation.
Fifty one Del Rio High School seniors received diplomas at commencement in the high school auditorium. The event featured remarks on vision and personal design by Dr John William Berwin of Southwestern University and included music by Marion Russell and the school choir.
C B Dutch Wardlaw president of the Board of Education of the Del Rio Independent School District presented diplomas to 41 graduates at commencement exercises in the High School Auditorium Friday night.
In the high Rockies the mountain burro's voice fades to a few cries as miners, prospectors, and travelers rely on automobiles. Burros still accompany herders and Indians, though numbers decline across Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah, California, Nevada, and New Mexico. In Nevada burros were culled for feed, while New Mexico still sees widespread burro use among sheep herders.
The American Legion Auxiliary reports roughly $100 raised in Poppy Day sales in Del Rio. President Mrs Jas C Netts noted helpers under Mrs J R Middlebrook and Miss Josephine Jones sold the poppies on the streets with Mrs Ray Ross and Mrs Leslie Cranfill. Poppies were made by disabled veterans at a Kerrville hospital and one cent was paid per poppy.
Memorial Day services will be conducted by the American Legion in Westlawn Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 5 30. The program includes invocation by Rev L C Beasies, an address, a firing squad salute, taps, and benediction by local clergy. Graves will be decorated with flowers by American Legion members. banks and post office will observe Monday with closures.

Philadelphia reports the death of Frederick Fugene Ives at 81 after a long illness. Ives was the inventor of the half tone engraving process and died yesterday.
