John Fiorenza was convicted of murder in the first degree for the bathtub slaying of Mrs. Nancy Evans Titterton, a writer and radio executive's wife, who was attacked and strangled on April 10. The verdict carries the death penalty.

Baton Rouge reports members of a posse search the hills for Wilfred Lindsly a Louisiana convict suspected of killing prison official Captain N J Himel and his wife at Angola penal farm. Lindsly allegedly posed as a guard to slip away prompting a widening search with Sheriff T H Martin noting the suspect walked down the highway in the crowd.
Rainstorm drenched Del Rio lasting about 30 minutes with 1.13 inches recorded by the Weather Bureau. Thunder and lightning lit the sky as streets flooded and winds drove water through home cracks. February rainfall totals rise, with many West Texas towns reporting heavy totals across the region.
The Del Rio Rotary Club weekly luncheon at Hotel Roswell discussed the healthy condition of the student loan fund. J A Forman explained the fund started in 1925 and the loans made and repaid with 4 percent interest. He noted prompt repayments by students. Dr John R Brinkley announced plans for a three month vacation and return on September 1.
The House voted to cite Townsend and two pension aides for contempt with instructions to refer the case to the Federal district attorney. Clinton Mander of New York and J. B. Kiefer of Chicago were named along with Townsend. In Tientsin Chinese police patrolled streets as anti Japanese demonstrations grew.
Helmet Fusch Jr a junior observer in the United States Weather Bureau has been transferred to Port Arthur for a two year assignment. The successor to Mr Pusch is expected to arrive within the next few days.
Julian LaCrosse announced Thursday his candidacy to succeed himself as district attorney for the 63rd Judicial District. He was praised for conscientious service in that office by the Val county officials and community leaders.

The Val Verde County grand jury praised his work and commended his efficient service in the district which includes Val Verde Kinney Maverick Edwards and Terrell counties.

Investigators reveal county prosecutor David Pence admitted membership in the Black Legion affiliate. Pence said he joined two years ago, withdrew a year later, and urged federal inquiry. Reports note a push in Congress for powers to curb the Legion and Michigan Democrats drafting investigative legislation.
City Health Officer D A York urged Del Ricans to cooperate in controlling mosquitoes. He warned that many people create breeding grounds in cess pools and yard containers. He advised kerosene in cesspools and puncturing tin cans to prevent standing water.

Geo B Terrell, father of J Tur ney Terrell of Del Rio, visited Del Rio briefly on Thursday while en route to El Paso. He is a candidate for commissioner of agriculture, subject to Democratic primary action.
Alen Contracting Company sues the City of Del Rio in Federal Court over an alleged breach of contract for extending the water system at about 67900. The city is said to have used bonds and city funds instead of a Public Works grant and to have contracted another builder, limiting the plaintiff to potential profits of about 6700. Judge R J McMillan presides as the jury hears the case.
The Texas Relief Commission began mailing final relief checks totaling 321,312 dollars to about 38,000 unemployed. The June budget ends three years of state and federal disbursement for direct relief as director Adam Johnson calls the move a cleanup for the state. Average urban relief is 10 dollars and 4 dollars in rural areas to aid the destitute until July 1.
Colonel Roscoe Turner abandoned his speed flight from Los Angeles to Providence after determining repairs to his motor were necessary. He landed in Wichita after stopping at Albuquerque on the cross country journey.
The Senate opened debate on the deficiency appropriation bill carrying 1.425 billion dollars for next year’s relief. Leaders pressed for a vote by tomorrow as no obstacle to quick action appeared.
The wool market surged with eight and 12 month wools reaching new highs. Producers Wool and Mohair Co sold 720000 pounds in 24 hours with Stokes paying 32 cents for 200000 pounds of eight month wool, the season’s top for short wool since 1929. Brady saw 12 month wool at 334 cents per pound for 30000 pounds sold to Wright Bros. of Boston. Other notes include 12 month wool at 32 1/2 cents and eight month wool at 31 cents across multiple consignments through Studley Emory and A W Hilliard & Sons.
Layton Buddy Williams learns of his mother Mrs. Clinton Williams death in Los Angeles California. Mrs Williams a Del Rio pioneer daughter of Albert Roach longtime resident. Survived by Layton Williams Adelena Johnson four brothers with services pending arrival. Interment planned in Los Angeles.
The American Legion Auxiliary asks for flowers to decorate war dead graves in West Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be placed Saturday with flags by the Legion. No other Memorial Day services will occur. Members urge floral contributions be taken to the Chamber of Commerce Friday and stored for early grave decoration.
In Kubatia North Palestine British troops exchanged fire with rioters today killing two and wounding three. The British also reported no casualties. Earlier a British policeman Robert Beard and one Arab were slain.
Colonel and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh dined with 14 guests of King Edward VIII at St James Palace in London. The May 28 report places the royal gathering in the afternoon guest list.
