State Department to Coordinate Rio Grande Water Work

The United States plans to coordinate the International Boundary Commission and the International Water Commission to speed settlement of Rio Grande water division and Mexico relations. Secretary of State Cotton said negotiations may continue with Mexico while a boundary treaty with Texas is pursued within the next year or two.

Man Held on Swindle Charge in County Court

A swindle charge was filed in county court in Priday against a man accused of presenting a worthless check for 37.50 to A Madison Motor Sales Co. for two tires and two tubes. The check drew on the State National Bank of Big Spring. The defendant had not been arrested by Saturday.

Greyhound Run Permit Denied by Texas Railroad Commission

The Railroad Commission of Texas denied Southland Greyhound Lines Inc. a permit to operate a San Antonio to Ven Horn route via Del Rio. The denial followed a Del Rio hearing where motor transportation officials reviewed Unis agul and other applications. Meanwhile Mexican Bornet Coaches Inc. secured a permit to run Del Rio to Alpine, and Pecos and Rio Grande Bus Line is authorized to operate Alpine to Van Horn. Southland routes already connect Van Horn and El Paso.

State Clerks Parley Program Set For Del Rio Meeting

Hopkins of Val Verde County and Juan LaCrosse District Attorney will address the Texas County and District Clerks Association in Del Rio June 13. Martial law ends in Sherman after courthouse attack

Martial law was lifted in Sherman at noon today as forces withdraw to home stations. Since May 9 a mob guarded the county seat after burning the Lee Grayson County courthouse and removing the cremated remains of a Black man accused of assaulting a white woman.

More than 100 delinquent tax cases are being processed by Walter Jones city attorney in the district court. The first batch, about 49 suits, was filed Friday as the drive to collect unpaid city taxes continues.

Directors Decide Next Session at Van Horn for Highway No 90

Editor Gibbs of Eagle Pass Dies After Illness

Mr Gibbs 59 longtime editor of the Eagle Daily Guide died at home in Eagle Pass after a month of illness. He had been a prominent Texas newspaper man, previously with the Galveston News, and his efforts supported Maverick County irrigation. His daughter Lorene Gibbs worked with the immigration service. his wife had died years earlier.
