Horace K Fawcett of the Val Verde ranching region was elected a member of the State Soil Conservation Board by District Two at Fort Stockton. He defeated G Lee of Biden 31 17 in a runoff and will represent western counties from El Paso to Martin, with duties at the Temple meeting May 29. Fawcett, son of E K Fawcett, grew up on the Dolan Draw ranch and is a Del Rio High School and Texas A M College alumnus. He raises Barbourville sheep and has three children with his wife Helena York Fawcett.

Alligators Found On Ranch In Texas
Alligators discovered at the Howard Westfall ranch three miles west of Big Lake Regan County Texas by N W Hickman an employee. An old alligator more than ten feet long and several others eight to twenty four inches were found. The reptiles likely washed into a lake during the 1936 floods. Oil company employees nearby had kept small alligators in a pool destroyed by the flood. Big Lake once dried up two years ago and served as a cattle watering place.

Quintuplets Meet King and Queen of England in Toronto
The Dionne quintuplets traveled from northern Ontario to Toronto and met King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Bill Cook son of Mr and Mrs P Cook has passed the Naval Academy entrance examination. He took the test April 19 at the local post office under W C Hodge and was notified Monday. He attended the University of Texas last fall after graduating Del Rio High School where he tied for salutatorian. Navy Sub Squalus Reported Down In Trouble
Portsmouth NH May 25 The Navy submarine Squalus with sixty two men aboard was reported down and in trouble 240 feet deep off White Island Rescue vessels rushed to the scene In a call with the submarine Sculpin the distressed craft said the induction valve was not closed during the dive and water entered the crew quarters and engine room The Squalus was launched last September It measures 292 feet long and 26 feet in beam.

Rites Planned for Bill Jackson Thursday
Bill Jackson aged 40 who died Sunday in Little Rock Arkansas will be buried Thursday at 430 pm. A funeral service will be held at Greater Mount Olive Colored Baptist Church in Chihuahua with Rev James Fennell officiating. Survivors include his widow Jessie Jackson and five brothers and four sisters of San Marcos along with his mother Jenny Jackson.
