Claude Beavers ringleader of last week's Oklahoma penitentiary escape spent a week on the run before surrendering to authorities 35 miles southeast of McAlester. Beavers described his freedom as not worth the ordeal as Old Boston the prison blood hound and five officers closed in. Two other convicts, Julius Bohannon and A C McArthur, remain at large among 24 escapees after the May 13 breakout that killed brickyard foreman C D Powell and wounded a guard.
Joseph Bellis a 60 year old miner was killed when dynamite he was transporting exploded a minute after two companions stepped from the car to open a gate on the highway. The blast also left the cause undetermined while the two companions escaped unharmed.
Max Hofmaster, 65, from Austria, told police he slept in a flophouse in Chicago and awoke to find his pants removed. He reported his $3,200 savings, in ten and twenty dollar bills, sewn into the lining of his trousers, were gone after his nap.
The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce sent out 198 folders this week advertising Del Rio climate and business opportunities. Requests surged after broadcasts on Radio Station XERA sparked interest from listeners nationwide. Saturday's mailing topped the week with over 50 folders dispatched.
The American Legion Auxiliary contest for Poppy Day awarded three prizes rather than two. Winners were Mary Adele Elmore, Buddy Howard, and Eugene Taillon, all Sacred Heart or Central School students. Posters were displayed citywide and judged by a Legion committee. Poppy sales raised 146 dollars at noon for local Auxiliary charity work in Del Rio.

Johnny Williams acting for Tom Richey of A W Hilliard & Son buys 50,006 pounds of eight months wool from Producers Wool and Mohair Company at 30.14 cents per pound. The price sits one half cent under the year's high for short wool.
A bull jumped the barrier during a bullfight in Avignon on Friday, goring a spectator and tossing him into the air. Soldiers intervened and saved the man from death by catching him as he fell.
Texas Attorney General McCraw ruled that Negroes cannot vote in state Democratic primaries. He told Travis County clerk Miss Em’ee Limberg that the 1932 Houston convention resolution remains in effect and need not be adopted at the San Antonio convention. The question, he said, was settled by state and U S Supreme Courts.

In Linz on May 23, Prince Ernst Von Starhemberg's private home guard repulsed an assault on the Waxemburg estate tied to the deposed vice chancellor.
