Cleofas Calleros of El Paso will address 18 students promoted from grammar school to high school Thursday at 8 p m.
Partly cloudy for Del Rio tonight and Thursday with slightly warmer conditions in the Panhandle. Yesterday’s high was 84 degrees and low 70. This morning’s minimum stood at 71 degrees.
In San Angelo on May 22 the 51st District Court grand jury was impaneled as Judge John F. Sutton delivered a strong charge against marble lotteries and chain letters. He denounced gambling schemes as harming children and urged legal action by county and district attorneys. Three men, Pano H. Karr A. D. Davis and Bill Pappas, face charges in County Court related to marble machines. The judge noted the need to shape prosecutions and recalled federal action against chain letter lotteries at San Antonio.
The Board of Equalization appointed for the Del Rio Independent School District started examining rendition rolls in the office of Nellie Buchanan the tax assessor. Members Ed C. Daniel chairman Chris Jones and M D McNutt expect to finish by Saturday and set protest hearings for June 5. Changes in values will be mailed in a few days.
Worms invading Henderson County have badly damaged cotton and garden crops including peas and watermelons. Farmers have used large amounts of poison, and much cotton may need replanting after recent floods.
A search for Lieut. Wendell Holladay and Private Ira Hicks, missing since Sunday, focused on the Caddo Lake region after reports described a plane seen flying toward Shreveport through a heavy rainstorm with a sputtering motor. A farmer spotted the craft losing altitude over the swollen lake, raising concerns for the crew's safety.
In Llano on May 22, the jury for L. E. Trimble murder case likely to be completed today after five jurors chosen. Trimble faces charges for fatally shooting W. R. Tomlinson Menard County commissioner last November. Case moved to Llano on venue change. Forty veniremen of 110 were questioned through Tuesday with six of 15 peremptory challenges used.

The Post Office Department announced the appointment of acting postmasters including Janette, expanding women’s roles in federal postal service on May 22.
Superintendent Dr. Carlos E. Castaneda announced that the San Felipe Independent School District has ordered the retirement of two scrip series E and F. The two series total 4300 dollars, leaving one series outstanding.
President Roosevelt approved the allotment board’s recommendations to spend the first billion of the four billion works program. Orders will be signed after the budget director drafts them. The aim is full operation by November 1 and an early state allotment announcement.
Twenty six criminal cases were tried in the Spring circuit of 63rd District Court covering Val Verde Terrell Maverick Kinney and Edwards Counties. Twenty two verdicts of guilty were returned and no suspended sentences issued. Fifteen were jury cases with no deadlock. Two cases ended with instructed verdicts of not guilty, one recommended by District Attorney Julian LaCrosse.
Washington May 22.47 In an unofficial report the Navy Department said it cannot determine if a wind gust or structure failure caused the loss of the Macon dirigible off the California coast last February. The court of inquiry held no offenses were committed and no blame incurred.

Del Rio Independent School District voters elected teachers at a called board meeting Tuesday night. Elementary pay raises of six dollars a month were approved for those on the minimum salary. Eleven teachers across High School Junior School Central Elementary North Heights and West End were named plus part time and reappointed staff. Additional hires awaited at a later session.
Dallas officials including Councilman J Willis Gunn and City Manager Hal Moseley announced a policy that any city employee found with liquor on the breath will be dismissed immediately. Several council members support the rule and will enforce it.
