Washington May 21 The Townsend pension organization denied using the mails to defraud the public. James R. Sullivan told the House investigating committee that $11,490 raised for a congressional fund via Townsendgrams was mailed. Dr F E Townsend said he knew nothing until after the appeal and said the mails were not used to defraud.
J R Russum, famed as Izaak Walton follower, landed a 35 pound blue catfish using a rod and 40 pound test line at Lake Walk. He described the battle as exciting as the fish charged toward submerged trees, then surrendered after a tough fight.
More than a third of Potter County direct relief clients qualify under the Texas old age assistance plan. Pensions will be paid to members of 82 of the 134 families now on relief rolls, says district relief director Mrs. Cornelia Patton.
Jack Sullivan, linked to the Bowie, Arizona police slaying, faced execution in the state gas chair. An attendant flanked him as a stethoscope rested on his chest before the chamber released lethal gas. He died within two minutes after the chair activated.

Checks for amounts above bond value will accompany the bonds, with deliveries possible June 16 or 17. Bonds are non negotiable and may be cashed only by the veteran in person. The 1936 West Texas Press Association gathering will be held in Midland on May 22 and 23 with aim of 100 registrations.
