Second Suspect In Chico Bank Robbery Caught
State police in Texas arrested a second suspect in the Chico bank robbery. The wounded man Pete Pinion of Alvord was shot and identified by papers. His brother L. C. Pinion was captured later near Chico after an abandoned car led officers to the scene.

Bond Set At 1500 For Embezzlement Suspect Bradshaw
E W Bradshaw faced an examining trial before Justice J P Aderhold on embezzlement charges. Bail fixed at 1500 but posted, he failed to meet it and was remanded to Val Verde County jail for grand jury action. He allegedly embezzled from an Edinburg firm and sold merchandise in Del Rio after being employed there. Bradshaw was arrested in Memphis, extradition waived, and Sheriff Steinmetz returned him after a 2340 mile round trip.

Plans Set for Girl Scout Rally in Del Rio

No Tick Quarantine Violations Found In Val Verde County
In April two men worked in Val Verde County to eradicate fever tick infestation. House Approves Investment Officer for Public School Fund
In Austin on May 18 1944 the House reversed prior action and adopted an amendment to hire an investment officer for the public school fund at 4000 dollars a year. Nearly 7 million dollars in fund investments were noted as in default and blamed on part time governance. The officer must report all recommendations in writing to the State Board of Education. The attorney general must still approve bond form and legality.
