A county soil conservation group has elected officers in a local vote. Citizens debated the merits of the extra proposal, but the ballot measure was rejected by city voters who cited concerns over costs and impact on rates.
The North Heights Parent-Teacher Association schedules the annual summer round-up for Wednesday at 2 pm at North Heights Elementary School. Pre-schoolers north of the railroad tracks are urged to attend for physical examinations before the fall start.
Victims identified as Corpus Christi postmaster Gilbert McGloin and assistant A E Dittmer. McGloin shot in the back of the head and died two and a half hours later. Dittmer killed instantly in his office. A postal inspector investigated and refused comment. Washington officials warned findings may take weeks.
The United States faces a pulp surplus as 15 new Southern mills add 1.5 million tons to year end inventory. Secretary Hopkins authorizes an in depth study of Latin American markets in Argentina Brazil Chile Colombia Peru Venezuela Bolivia Ecuador Uruguay Cuba and Mexico to expand foreign buyers.
WAUPACA Wis May 16 Allen Scott was fined 50 dollars for reckless driving after a hearing before the justice of the peace, who is the defendant's father M B Scott. A second offense would be punished by jail.
Senate finance chair Harrison told President Roosevelt the undistributed profits tax must be killed this session to aid business recovery. A White House tax revision meeting with Morgenthau, Hanes, Doughton, and Cooper discussed a possible 18 percent flat rate on high bracket corporate incomes and future Senate action.
Ragged gray clouds over Del Rio Tuesday afternoon brought intermittent showers. The Weather Bureau forecast fair weather tonight and Wednesday with light drizzle at noon.

Two bandits robbed the First Bank of Chico Texas shortly before noon. They fled in a yellow coupe toward Jacksboro with $1500 to $2000. Assistant cashier W. H. Tallant and secretary Evie Blackmon were held at gunpoint as the money was taken. The Chico robbery followed two Texas bank holdups in recent days in Maypearl and Santa Anna.
Swimming and life saving tests will be held this week at Moore Park pool. Instructors Daw son DeViney Herbert Ogle or Miss Anne Garrett will oversee sessions from 4 to 6 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Tests cover beginner swimmer, swimmer, junior life saver and senior life saver levels. Review allowed midweek with testing Friday or Saturday. No testing fee. admission to the pool required.
Private services were held Tuesday at 3 pm for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs Douglas A. Newton at Westlawn Cemetery. Rev H M Ratliff officiated with burial by Doran Funeral Home. The baby was born Monday evening in Williams Sanitarium and was the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Altman and Mr and Mrs Dee Newton. She leaves her parents and brother Douglas Newton Jr. as survivors.
Jack Allison of Sam Angelo and Munro Fincaid Edgehill Inc Boston visited Del Rio on Tuesday. He had purchased more than eight months wool in Texas last year than any other buyer.
C E Ed Long and J Kidd will attend the first annual soil and water utilization contest at the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention in Abilene where awards total 500 300 and 200 to top counties. Val Verde County ranchers reported 171649.62 in range conservation in 1938 with terraces ridges waterways dams wells and eradiation efforts cited.
Scouts will receive merit badges at the Court of Honor in Moore Park Tuesday evening starting at 7 30 with John L Dodson in charge. A further call urged all Boy Scouts and interested parties to attend Monday morning. Included in the badge list is a lite badge.
The local American Legion post will meet Tuesday evening at 8 in the Chamber of Commerce to lay plans for Memorial Day May 30. Post commander Ray Ross urged all Legionnaires to attend promptly.
In Waltham Massachusetts a man Paul Leach twenty was fined ten dollars for disturbing the peace after neighbors called police. He walked on the roof of a girl s house and tried to enter through a second story window claiming she allowed it.
A County Soil Conservation Committee for Val Verde County elected four members, each from a different precinct. W S Stevenson Precinct One H K Fawcett Precinct Two Willie Kelley Precinct Three T L Dinsdale Precinct Four.
Del Rio High seniors start examinations Tuesday and continue through Thursday with report cards due Friday at 4 p.m. Any senior who fails a course may take another exam next week. Baccalaureate is set for May 21 at 8 15 p.m. in the auditorium with Rev. Pred C Rufle delivering the address and commencement on May 26 with Dr. W H Elkins as speaker.
