Republican strategists plan an after adjournment outburst aimed at undermining New Deal policies with NRA as a focal point. A mid June national weekly blast, and a Supreme Court emergency ruling, loom large in a summer campaign outline.
The Del Rio Independent School District board reelected all district teachers with resignations accepted. Contracts will be mailed in August after the budget. Supt. Roy M. Andrews was reelected. modest salary increases hoped for classroom staff amid rising living costs.
James D. Hamlin of Farwell, veteran ranchman and longtime XIT manager, was elected president of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce at SAN ANGELO. He succeeds Walter D. Cline of Wichita Falls. Ray H. Nichols of Vernon was named first vice president, G. M. Caldwell of Abilene second vice president, F. E. Morrow of Stamford re elected treasurer, and D. A. Bandeen re elected manager for the sixth year.
The city equalization board will continue hearings through Friday for property owners in the sections to set tentative values. Owners citywide were told to appear Tuesday through Saturday to protest value increases. Budget for next year not set. officials expect tax rate to drop as city valuation declines. Assessed city valuation last year was about 5 million dollars.
Muleshoe reports three irrigation wells completed in the Blackwater Valley center. Over 500 acres have been added to cultivation. R. L. Brown lists a 1200 GPM well on a 40 acre quarter with 100 ft depth and no casing, sowing alfalfa Irish potatoes beans okra cucumbers and tomatoes. W. E. Springstube’s 40 acre tract northeast of town has a 100 ft well pumping 700 GPM and plans Irish potatoes and beans.
In Duluth on May 16 the Northern Bible Society announced receipt of Bibles written in 70 African dialects, adding to 15 African Bibles already owned. The society notes 233 African languages exist with Bible translations and seeks samples of the remaining 148 tongues.

San Antonio May 16 Grover C Cain escaped after being held for over an hour by two men who forced him to drive away. Cain leaped from the car when he started home after one assailant slugged him with a pistol and the abductors fled in Cain s vehicle.
Monkeys at Salt Lake City's zoo will not be entirely without water despite a threatened shut off by the water department. Mrs. George Sandom Freeport, Ir., sent a two ounce bottle of water with a note reading feed to the monkeys daily.
Death struck the William E. Crittenden family in Park City with three losses in a week. Son Ralph died of pneumonia, daughter Mrs. Jess Brook followed two days later from the same disease, and Crittenden himself died of a heart attack five days after.
Willie Graf seeks the Justice of the Peace office in Val Verde County in the Democratic primary on July 28, 1934. Born in Del Rio, he is the son of the late Ed Graf from Victoria. Support from old-time friends is urged. he pledges prompt faithful service if elected.
Citizens of Devilsfork Wyoming County win approval to change the village name to Stephens on June 1 under post office authorization. The move aims to remove the feared town moniker and standardize mail addressing for residents.
Senator Tom Connally of Texas argued that a revolution had occurred not from upheaval but from lifting the nation from coinage collapse to prosperity. He said the true revolution is relief for hunger and poverty and praised measures restoring banks, agriculture, and employment under President Roosevelt and Congress.
A wind driven forest fire on a California mountain trail near Julian killed three members of the State Emergency Relief Administration camp. Clarence Harris John Leapley and Ambrose Williams died as firefighters found their charred bodies. The blaze burned over 1500 acres destroying several cabins and summer homes and was under control early today.
Geneva May 16 German officials indicated a move to rejoin the International Disarmament conference after withdrawing last year. The report sparked cautious optimism among circles wary of renewed disarmament prospects.
Denton Mayee Hamilton is escorted by eight Dallas officers to stand trial for the April 25 First National Bank of Lewisville robbery after entering a plea of innocent. Mrs. J. W. Sherrell of Loraine dies at 55 after a lingering illness. Funeral planned in Loraine with no local relatives attending. She planned a Del Rio visit before death and is survived by her husband J. W. Sherrell and daughters Lucille Neva Pauline and Alberta, plus her father and daughter and siblings Ethridge Bass Mrs. Tom Payne and Mrs. Byron Kincaid.
Tokyo reports two Japanese officers were killed when their airplane was shot down during a scouting mission over Chinese irregulars near Hailar Manchukuo.

Philadelphia May 16 Governor Gifford Pinchot conceded defeat in his bid for the Republican nomination to the Senate against incumbent David A. Reed. Reed leads by over 100000 votes as results come in from the Pennsylvania contest.

President Franklin D Roosevelt urged regulation of the Stock Exchange by the Federal Trade Commission and backed a House standard of 45 percent marginal requirements for deals. Funeral services were held for 10 year old William Russell Stevens who was electrocuted while exploring a bird nest at a sub station near the old tree plant. The boy stepped on a bass bar after climbing 18 feet as 11,000 volts surged through him. An inquest is expected Thursday morning. William, a San Felipe pupil, died after moving from Brackettville with his parents in 1926. He is survived by his parents two sisters Mary and Emma, a brother J Russell Jr and grandparents Emanuel Stevens of Detroit.
