Conflicting accounts emerge in the fatal shooting of Herman Hicks a 41 year old Houston civil engineer in an Austin hotel. Representative BE Quinn asserts self defense claiming Hicks and witness John R Sterrett attacked him while Sterrett says Hicks was shot as he leaned against a corridor wall eating a sandwich. Sterrett had just met Hicks and says Quinn arrived to complain about a noise.
S H Henderson proclaims he has been falsely accused and argues that the legal system favors lawyers and money over justice. He rails against editors omitting his truth about lawyers, praises some editors while condemning others, and calls for space to publish his plan for a better world. He ends by asking the public to judge if there is space for his views.

Five persons including four school children were killed when an automobile carrying the children to school collided with a train near Milton Vermont. The car struck the locomotive and was dragged for about a mile along the tracks.
Percy Lo Gassaway, Oklahoma former cowboy congressman and former district judge, died Saturday at age 51. He suffered a heart attack on his ranch near Colgate and died en route to Ada after a campaign defeat in the November election.
Six year old Johnny Wilburn Leonard, son of Mr and Mrs J B Leonard of Del Rio, showed improvement after an eye operation at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. He suffered a injury below the left eye two weeks ago, developed an infection, and was treated by four specialists before surgery Wednesday night.
The Texas legislature will adjourn May 22 after approval by both chambers. Governor Allred demands repeal of the House-passed horse race betting law as a condition for a possible special session. Mrs Sarah Wood Hutto 77 widow of W G Hutto died Friday at 9 p m at her home 501 Avenue C after a several weeks illness. Funeral services are set for 3 p m Sunday at the Carta Valley Baptist Church with Rev L B Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in Carta Valley cemetery under Doran Funeral Home direction. Surviving are four sons Joe Chris and Carl Hutto of Carta Valley Brun Hutto of Comstock. three daughters Mrs Jess Baker Del Rio Mrs S T Wright Pumpville and Mrs C C Hutto Carlsbad N M. 29 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was born October 1 1859 in Abbeyville Alabama and lived in Del Rio for 10 years.
Four prisoners escaped Gregg County jail last night near Gilmer between Big Sandy and Pittsburg. Three fled in a four square mile area and were abandoned near Overton. the fourth stole a sedan near Cline and headed toward Mount Pleasant with officers in pursuit.
