In recent weeks Jones has pushed to extend his power in federal finance by seeking congressional authority for RFC direct industrial loans. Opposed by the Federal Reserve Board, the move may be tempered by compromise. He also sought a homebuilding drive under RFC but gained little.
Raw steel output runs at 60 percent of capacity, up two points from last week and the highest rate since September 1930, The Iron Age reports. Scrap prices fall while automobile production appears to have peaked.

Tokyo May 14 report says rifle fire from Russian positions on the Amur River killed one Manchukuoan sailor and wounded another aboard a steamer. The Amur River forms the northern boundary of Manchukuo.
Final examinations for 35 Del Rio High School seniors begin Wednesday and run through Friday. School closes May 25. Baccalaureate Sermon Sunday at 8 p m in the high school auditorium by Rev Claude R Hill. Class night May 22 junior commencement May 24 graduation May 25 with Speaker Coke R Stevenson.
W. A. Turner, about 90, was reported critically ill at Brownwood on Monday in a wire to his daughter Mrs. J. P. Wethington. Mr. and Mrs. Wethington hastened to Brownwood. Turner had been moved from Del Rio last week by Doran ambulance and seemed slightly improved when Mrs. Wethington left.
Ozona May 14 Joseph Myers of the United States conciliation service will report findings to the national emergency council on the West Texas shearing price controversy after a meeting with the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. The association said it has no power to make wage contracts for ranchmen and invited a full investigation. Williams of the AFL urged ranchmen to form a unit with the association to make contracts, but no action was taken.
May 14 in San Angelo. Mr and Mrs Jake Schwartz of Uvalde registered at the St Angelus Hotel after their wedding in Uvalde Friday at 2 30 p m. Mrs Schwartz was Lenora Hunter before the marriage.
Captain George R. Pond and Lieutenant Cesare Sabelli departed Floyd Bennett Field bound for Rome in a non stop 4,500 mile attempt. They aimed to complete the journey in about 40 hours marking the year’s first transatlantic flight.
Funeral services for 13 year old Daniel Hamer son of Mr and Mrs Harrison Hamer were conducted Sunday at 2 pm from the Doran Chapel with Rev James L Standridge of Fort Worth officiating. Interment followed in Westlawn Cemetery. Daniel died Friday morning of pneumonia after illness starting April 1. He was born in Snyder Texas and lived in Del Rio most of his life. Pallbearers were Richard Casey Ellis Tracey George Adams Jr Reuben Holmes Charles Cook and Richard Adams. Survivors include his parents three brothers Clint F A Hamer and Robert Hamer of Del Rio and two sisters Wilna Hamer of Del Rio and Mrs Scott Yancy of Rankin.
Federal troops rushed to Santo Domingo, Oaxaca, where 20 bandits led by Alfonso Cruz looted stores and ransacked homes since Friday. The mayor fled and officials fear the city secretary was murdered. In San Angelo, a West Texas chamber group recommends independence from government aid and a focus on rights, taxes, and self reliance to spur prosperity.
The House Agriculture Committee voted to extend the commodity exchange control bill to include cotton alongside grain. In a separate move, President Roosevelt urged Congress to back government insurance for private financing of home construction and repairs to boost employment and create tangible wealth.
James P. Wolf of Los Angeles furniture maker witnessed the kidnapping of his friend William F. Gettle, wealthy Beverly Hills oil man. Wolf freed himself and raised the alarm that sparked a state-wide manhunt for the suspect.
Shareholders of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Del Rio will meet Thursday at 3 p.m. in the office of the Chamber of Commerce. J. Autrey Walker, temporary secretary-treasurer, states the charter to do business will be delivered and the permanent organization will be set up. Temporary officers are Judge W. F. Bogies, president, E. F. Measels, first vice president, A. Madison, second vice president, and J. Autrey Walker, secretary-treasurer.
R. H. Bill Rogers and about 30 members of his vocational animal husbandry classes left early Monday for Sonora to tour the A and M experiment station. Both first and second year classes were required to visit as part of their instruction amid demonstrations in related work. The station is conducting an open house with high school classes from across the state as guests.
In San Francisco on May 14 a 23 year old Utah girl Miss Louise Jeppesen was found battered and strangled in Golden Gate Park. Millard Hickman a port engineer with Matson Navigation Company was booked on a murder charge after admitting the girl stayed at his apartment until 3 am Sunday. He denied knowledge of her death. A couple seen with Hickman and the girl Saturday night left the apartment before her departure.

A daybreak update says William F. Get tle, oil millionaire, and a key emissary fled after a ransom chase through Los Angeles. Chief Cole Blackwell announced strict enforcement of the eight mile per hour limit in school zones. Fines range from five to two hundred dollars, with markers clearly indicating the speed and zone boundaries.
Central P T A will give physical examinations Wednesday for preschool children entering the school for the first time this Fall. Mrs W E Tinnin announced the event set for 3 oclock in the Central School Building.
Lois Nell Whitehead daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Whitehead left Sunday to attend the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention at Del Rio May 15 16 and 17. She was accompanied by her escort J O Taylor.
