Mrs. Maria Martinez a local physicians office girl was struck at 8 20 P M Tuesday at Canal and Main Streets and suffered shock severe bruises and a leg injury. She was dragged 15 feet before the driver stopped and was later taken into custody. Her companion Miss Lallie Sanchez was thrown onto the car fender and injured her hand.

The United States and France signed a reciprocal trade pact that does not reduce tariffs on wool felt or felt hot bodies. Senator Tom Connally informed Roger Gillis of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association by telegram on Wednesday. Tariff reductions apply only to other mutually traded products.
A widening rift emerged between Italy and the League of Nations as Italy withdrew its Geneva delegation and warned the League to accept its Roman Empire ambitions or risk Italy's absence. A Hungarian spokesman suggested Mussolini would push Hungary and Austria to follow if Italy abandons the League.
Radio evangelist Bob Shuler will lecture on Forty Years a Rebel at First Methodist Church with guest Dr John Brinkley. The pair were previously banned from air by the FCC. Rev L C Beasley expects visitors from nearby towns. no charge, free will offering. Shuler travels from Los Angeles en route to Annapolis to his son's Naval Academy graduation, accompanied by Mrs Shuler and family.
Associated Press reports Borah's militant bid against the Ohio regular Republicans yielded only five of 52 delegates. Roosevelt swept anti New Deal foe Breckinridge in New York as West Virginia returns favored Gov. Landon with ten delegates. Ralph M. Hiner conceded defeat for the Democratic Senate nomination to Neely. Vermont picked nine uninstructed delegates favorable to Landon.
El Paso on May 13 Jose Gallegos, 104, filed at the district pension office and recalled his Indian fighting days. He warned officials he expects to live long, saying his father reached 120 and his grandfather 112.
The wool market remains steady as 28 000 pounds of 12 month wool from Russell Martin is sold through the Producers Wool and Mohair Co. The clip brings 314 cents a pound from D. E. Hughes and Jack Hughes of Studley and Emory. Delays due to rains affect shearing, with only a few days remaining before opening of the season.
Eloy Jiminez a one year old, orphaned, lies in a Williams Sanitarium ward in a dying condition from starvation. He weighs seven pounds and shows severe emaciation. Grandmother caretaker appeals for medicine and milk to keep him alive a week longer, with Rev. Murray and hospital owners coordinating aid and donations of clothing and funds.
Emil Kaspar and wife Elsie smile in St Mary's Passaic as their newborn quadruplets Frances Frank Felix and Ferdinand thrive in an incubator. Kaspar, 47, supports six with a $20 weekly Erie Railroad assistant machinist wage obtained two weeks earlier.
E K Fawcett was re elected a director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce at the Amarillo annual convention. The Del Rio director has held the post for seven years and two hundred directors were elected at the session in Amarillo.
Amarillo readers report that Mayor Van Zandt Jarvis of Fort Worth was elected president by acclamation. Milburn McCarthy of Eastland and H S Hilburn of Plainview became first and second vice presidents. The group urged Congress to earmark substantial funds to continue the Public Works Administration until crafts and industries recover enough to function without aid.
Val Verde County commissioners appointed Douglas Newton to fill the unexpired term as county attorney after W P Wallace Jr resigned effective July 1. Newton serves from July 1 to December 31. The court also opened bids for courthouse roof and cornice painting with low bidder G F Shadix. Clarence Herreford, county judge, spoke Wednesday.
A special term of District Court has been called for Monday May 18 by Judge Brian Montague. After the April term in Del Rio, several criminal cases remain on the docket and the special term will dispose of them.
Del Rio Independent School District pupils host an open house at the high school with an art exhibit and song fest in observance of Texas song week. The exhibit opens at 7 p.m. in the Civic Club Room, then the song fest in the auditorium, followed by another exhibit viewing. Texas songs will be performed by North Heights Central West End Elementary schools and junior and high school glee clubs. Admission is free.
Dr. P. J. Shaver, husband of Jeanne Borroum, died in San Antonio after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday in San Marcos. Surviving are his widow three sons mother and a brother. Mrs. Borroum could not attend.
Thomas H. Robinson Jr expressed willingness to plead guilty to the $50,000 kidnapping of Mrs. Alice Speed Stoll. DOJ agent 0. C. Dewey in Louisville said Robinson discussed pleading after confessing the crime.
In San Francisco on May 13 a torch dancer set Shamrock nightclub ablaze injuring nine and causing four deaths including a hat check girl. Two men and two women died as patrons stampeded to the lone exit while others suffocated in a closed room before firefighters quelled the flames. Betty Blossom, performing with torches, helped trigger the disaster.
Henry Thomas Pat Mitchell aged 49, of 515 Pecan Street San Angelo, dies Wednesday morning after an extended illness. Funeral services set for Thursday in San Angelo with his body transported from Del Rio where he had lived with his sister Mrs Koog. He was born March 13 1887 in San Angelo and survived by two sisters Mrs Ollie Long and Mrs E V Koog and a brother C B Mitchell. An uncle and aunt Dr and Mrs W D Patton live in Eldorado and Mrs Lou Short in Gleeson Arizona.
Jasper man Lucian Prince Lewis, East Texas motion picture operator based in Jasper, says his lineage includes four U.S. presidents and the Confederacy’s only president. The Lewis family genealogy lists George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Benjamin Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Jefferson Davis, and Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Del Rio and vicinity remain unsettled tonight and Thursday. Yesterday’s high reached 89 with a low of 65. this morning’s low was 62.
