A gang threatens to kidnap Loretta Turnbull champion girl outboard racer. Her father Judge Rupert Turnbull reports warning notes and says the family, including three sons, is armed at their Monrovia California ranch and trained in shooting.
At the Clyde Mallory Line docks in Galveston Charles Smith was killed and C Horn wounded by three Mallory Line guards. Police charged murder and assault to murder. The shooting followed an attempt by Negro pickets to stop trucks carrying non union workers as 5000 longshoremen return to work after wages dispute.

Judge Charles Miller announced Saturday his candidacy for Justice of the Peace in Precinct No 1, subject to the Democratic primary on July 28, 1934. He first served when the county organized in 1885 and says he works for the people, not money, citing low pay and refusal to fine for minor offenses.
San Angelo reports a surge in livestock losses from an incurable illness with symptoms resembling hemorrhagic septicemia, or shipping fever. Mrs Henry Barrow mother of outlaw Clyde Barrow was detained by Texas rangers for a day and two nights in Dallas amid reports they suspected a meeting with Clyde on Mother’s Day. She returned home saying she provided no information.
A May 12 report from Austin states Governor Miriam A. Ferguson said any arrest or detention of Mrs. Barrow by rangers was without her authority or consent. The governor publicly rejected the action and emphasized her lack of approval.

They claimed to have caught more fish than four men could carry including 42 pounds of roe from buffalo fish a 25 pound dressed catfish and several alligator gars with two over six feet long and near 150 pounds total.
Lubbock postal receipts for April increased by 1391.43 dollars or 13 percent over April 1933. Acting post master M. M. Brown reports total receipts of 10428.62 for the month, up from 9037.19 a year ago.
