William Carty terminally ill with an incurable blood infection arrived in Fort Worth by air and drove to Wichita Falls to spend Mother's Day with his mother Mrs. W. B. Carty. Doctors warn death could come within days.
Intimation has been given that contact was made with the William F. Goettle kidnapping group. Ransom of 75000 dollars has been demanded for his release. Ernest Noon, attorney for Goettle’s wife, reported the development and said delivery instructions would follow. A woman was arrested for questioning in the case.
In Mont Heron May IL rescue workers searched the waters of Clark's Fork Creek for five people after an automobile plunged 60 feet into the river. Three children were among those feared drowned and six victims total were identified including W. L. Hagler a retired ranchman and five relatives.
The Central Elementary and Junior Schools opened their exhibit Friday afternoon showing progress in the school year. Displays include elementary work and junior maps notebooks and project work. Patrons and friends are invited to view the exhibits which remain open Friday until 5 then reopen at 7 for the evening.
At London the world wheat conference collapsed as Argentina refused the proposed minimum price plan. In Chicago Samuel Insull was freed on a $200000 bond after declining to plead to mails fraud and bankruptcy charges, then seized on state embezzlement warrants. Attorneys seek a $50000 bond on the state case.
San Saba on May 11 reports Decker Bostic of San Saba presented to Alpine's D S Barker the pistol used in the capture of Santa Anna. The Colt 44 army model pistol, once owned by Siron R Bostic, was found with Santa Anna after the siege near San Jacinto Creek. Barker, a longtime Pecos County sheriff and former Texas Ranger, adds the weapon to his Alpine collection.
In Washington on May 11 the Senate silver bloc and Secretary Morgenthau reached near certainty on the bill language to be sent to President Roosevelt early next week. Senator McCarren, a conferee, said Morgenthau backed a mandatory policy declaring silver as the primary monetary base with gold, though he preferred first submitting the text to the President.
Eight members of the Baptist Del Rio Uvalde Association Workers Council met Thursday in Rocksprings. Attendees included Rev. L B Gilbert and Mrs. J M Corley along with Mrs. C H Morris Mrs FE Sherrod Mrs John Cox Mrs Pauline Peterson Mrs J Travelstead and Mrs W E Cook. After lunch a women's meeting led by association president Mrs C H Morris featured talks on Personal Service and Woman and Stewardship. The next council meeting is set for June 14 in Sabinal.
Steel operations this week reach 569 percent of capacity, a record since weekly figures began last October, per the American Iron and Steel Institute. The rate rose 1.2 points from last week and is up 127 percent from the November low, with April last year at 25.08 percent and 1933 July peak near 59.85 percent.
A Texas Hatcherymen's organization report notes better business this year than since 1929, with hatchery managers crediting NRA support for the improvement across leading Texas hatcheries based in Brenham on May 11.

Edwards says once the State Fire Insurance Commission confirms Garden Parks is within the city limits, insurers will offer 7 percent credit on frame dwellings and 25 percent on hollow tile or brick homes. Dallas city bonds likely cannot be restored to the Post Office Department eligible list for postal savings security. City Manager John N. Edy said after returning from Washington that bonds were removed last fall when refunding debt exceeded 15 percent of assessed valuation, though current market prices remain strong and officials are not worried.
Missionary Rev. Howard Smith of Washington Pennsylvania, serving with the Christian and Missionary Alliance at Peng Shui, was kidnapped by crimson clad Chinese irregulars described as rogues. The incident was reported from Hankow on May 11.
Miss Anne Durrum of Clarksville was unanimously elected president of the Texas State College for Women student body for 1934 35 session. Miss Elizabeth Pool of San Antonio was chosen vice president and Miss Hazel George of Iowa Park secretary in the first unanimous student body vote in the college's history.
Daniel Hamer died in a Del Rio hospital from pneumonia after a relapse following an April 1 illness. Born in Snyder Texas, he lived most of his life in Del Rio. Funeral services are planned for Sunday afternoon. Survivors include his parents Harrison and Mrs. Hamer of Del Rio, three brothers Clint Jasper County F A Hamer and Robert Hamer, Del Rio, and two sisters Mrs Scott Yancy Rankin and Wilna Hamer of Del Rio.
District Judge W. W. McCrory told his grand jury that any man over ten who plays slot machines should be committed to a State hospital for observation. He suggested destroying the machines with an ax as the only way to remove them.
Claude Hooks, 33, was found dead Wednesday by a Santa Fe Railway section crew near Kirbyville. He reportedly was on his way to his brother’s home and was last seen alive Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Kirbyville. Hooks is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hooks of Spurger, Texas.
