New Drilling Line Moved to Rust Test

The Borer Transfer Company moved a 6000 foot drilling line to the Rust No 1 well in the Permian Basin. Seven miles east of town the line awaits a ten day delay for final setup. Permanent repairs were completed and all equipment is in A condition awaiting suitable formation to extend 5000 feet of pipe for production potential.

Brownwood, county seat of Brown County, reports a population of 12 781 in the latest census announced Saturday. The 1920 census listed Brownwood at 8 223, showing growth over the decade.

San Antonio Drug Co versus C P Scales on an account for stock purchase moved to Val Verde County district court following a Fourth Court of Civil Appeals ruling. Brady Defense Caught Napping By State Move

Dallas May 16 The State rested its case after testimony that Lohla Highsmith begged for her life before being stabbed by John Brady. The defense asked for adjournment until Monday morning. Judge Pipp en granted a recess as Bracr's attorneys protested the State rested unexpectedly and said they needed more time to prepare.

Georgia Minister Outlines Charges Against Bishops

Washington May 10 Dr Rembert G Smith of the North Georgia Conference outlined charges of political activity against four bishops of the Methodist Episcopal Church South at the Dallas Texas General Conference. The bishops named James Cannon Jr John Moore Edwin D Mouton and H M Du Bose were charged with violating church laws by engaging in 1928 political campaigning and vows of nonparticipation made at ordination.

Wool Advance On Carload For Fawcett Near Del Rio

An advance of 25 cents per pound was placed on a Draper and Company carload of select wool for Horace Fawcett ranching near Comstock. J M Lea of San Angelo, Draper and Company rep, said via telegram to The Evening News. Del Rio area wool advances run 23 to 24 cents per pound. Southwest Texas Wool and Mohair Marketing Corp reports over 500 thousand dollars in recent wool and mohair advances. more than 2 million pounds to be handled by the Del Rio cooperative with five other Texas co ops in operation as shearing season continues.

Perkins to Get Hearing Monday in Girl Charge

Perkins, a former peace officer, is to face a hearing Monday in Justice Charles Miller's court on abduction charges involving Lillian Chastain. Chastain, age 13, and Perkins reportedly married in Piedras Negras. Authorities say the girl’s age was misrepresented as 18. her mother Mrs. Parks and step-father E H Parks are expected witnesses.

Hopkins Injured in Twilight League Fall at Ball Park

Hopkins, a Twilight League catcher, suffered painful cuts behind his ear and on his neck after colliding with a wire netting behind home plate and the bumper of a parked car. He was attempting to field a foul drive and required several stitches.

Frank E Hering of South Bend credited with originating Mother's Day holds a medal from the American War Mothers as Father of Mother's Day He delivered the speech that started the observance in 1904 in Notre Dame area and remains active in Eagles and Notre Dame circles The article notes Anna Jarvis also helped popularize the day and that Hering's mother Mrs Elizabeth Hering lives with him in South Bend.

Body of George Hughes recovered after courthouse fire mob lynching

The 41 year old George Hughes confessed to assaulting a white woman and was found dead in the courthouse vault after the building was burned by a mob. The crowd dragged the body through a hole, then dumped it to the ground and dragged it on a car toward the jail amid cheers.

Swindle Charge Filed Over $10 Check in County Court

Crady Lowrey county attorney filed a hot check charge Saturday morning in county court. The case centers on a $10 check drawn on a San Antonio bank. The defendant remains at large. Dr E F Dawson and family traveled to Marethen for the commencement sermon at the schools. Mrs Charles H Merris accompanied them to Senderson. Pastor Dawson plans to return for Sunday evening services.
