An unconfirmed dispatch to Prensa reports a woods fire in Xochilpa, Guantajuato state, swept the town as residents slept, burning forty children to death and destroying the town by midday. Officials in Iguala ordered aid to the stricken community.
Washington May 10 A War Department announcement awards the Distinguished Service Medal to Col Samuel F. Dallam Cavalry now at Fort Clark The citation lauds his meritorious service as inspector of the 5th Army Corps noting his skill in supply inspection troop instruction and administration aiding Fifth Army Corps and American Expeditionary Force during St Mihiel and Meuse Argonne offensives.
Coleman May 10 tenants moved into a six story office building finished in marble. The old homestead is being moved to clear space for new business buildings in the Coleman business district.
Del Rio social note recounts Jo Katherine Cox of Del Rio visiting the Lingerlonger ranch owned by W. K. Shipman in Bexar County. The piece recalls Harry Williams’ earlier visit and describes the ranch as well improved with deer, redbirds, goats, bobwhites, and other wildlife on the Blanco road nine miles up.

Deputy sheriff Jonn H. Northcutt of Wink Texas was held without bail on murder charges after a habeas corpus hearing. He shot Eng Joe a Chinese restaurant owner twice during a dispute over a dinner check, claiming self defense after测试 drinking whiskey. Witness J T Webb recalled Northcutt’s casual reaction to the shooting.
The Texas House passed the Metcalfe bill for statewide fever tick eradication under the Livestock Sanitary Commission by a 109 to 17 vote after hours of debate. Earlier the Tillotson bill creating a reformatory in the penitentiary system for young and short term prisoners passed 105 to 2.
Austin May 10. Representative Mauritz of Ganado banker says he may enter the gubernatorial race to take the tax question to the people. The House committee last night killed all tax bills Mauritz had offered.
Representative Sam Gates of Karnes County proposed a tax on home brew in the state legislature. The May 10 session saw Gates pushing for the new levy as part of tax measures under consideration.
The Del Rio Cowboys will play a Sunday double header on the home diamond against a fast semi pro team from Laredo. New faces Jack York and Crosby join the lineup while Lewis from the University of Texas pitches again. After June 1 three University players will strengthen the Cowboys with two games arranged against St Marys University on May 18 and a May 19 double header.
The Del Rio Lions host the Eagle Pass Lions on the Cowboy diamond next Thursday at 5 PM. Proceeds fund paying a debt from equipping the high school basketball court and the event aims to attract a strong crowd for a worthy cause with likely big players, including Man Murrah if eligible.

Livingston May 10 Mrs. Joe Brock leaped from a truck driven by her husband after a reputed argument. She was injured fatally and died an hour later.

In Austin on May 10 a report states sorority sisters learned Miss Theresa Hamilton wed Thomas Walton Jr. after her father killed Walton. Hamilton withdrew from school April 16 after an appendicitis operation. Walton was noted to have only one girl and kept his marriage secret from family and housemates.
Mrs. F. M. Rose president of the Associated Charities of Del Rio announces a meeting for Monday May 13 at 3 40 oclock at Dorans Undertaking parlors. Officers will be elected for the ensuing year and reports on the years work will be presented. Members are urged to attend.
The body of Mrs. R. Davenport 69 who died at a San Antonio hospital was sent to Uvalde for burial. She is survived by her husband B. M. Davenport two sons Norman E and N Davenport both of Uvalde and two daughters Mrs Laura Marie Nelson of Rock Island and Mrs Dorris Robison of Del Rio.
Horace Leslie Hotchkiss, nationally known financier and sportsman and founder of the New York Stock Exchange and the United States Golf Association, died in San Antonio where he had lived for five years. Funeral services will be held in Waterbury Conn after ceremonies in St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church New York City. The body is en route to New York.
Fort Worth report says five brothers and sisters of Miss Beatrice Beasley, a Sherman nurse, are being traced after the Tarrant county orphan's home fire ten years ago. Original King family names noted. children listed as Willie 14, Florence 13, Lawrence 12, Elizabeth 4, a twin, and Betty Lou 2.
Governor Bruno Neira of Coahuila arrived in Villa Acuna with Gen. Ignacio Otero and lawmakers for a border outreach tour. The delegation met with local officials at City Hall and Moscow Casino, then dined at Crosby Hotel to discuss needs and development with northern Mexico partners. The governor praised Villa Acuna’s progress and cordial reception.
Prankster and financier Prank Greenwood, raised in the area and now from San Antonio, is back in Del Rio for business and social calls. He owns holdings there and says he will pay taxes in Del Rio and Val Verde County as long as he lives, hoping to hold ranch and town property.
Captain S. H. McLeod, manager of the Reprive prison farm, was dismissed for beating a convict in a manner contrary to law. Colonel Mead, administrator at Huntsville State Prison, disclosed the action today.
The Producer Wool and Mohair Company completed two sales in Del Rio, totaling over 500000 dollars. A morning sale moved 1000000 pounds of short wool at 32 cents a pound, with the final price kept confidential. A prior transaction with Stokes of Lampasas fetched 33 cents per pound, slightly above short wool.
Violence flared in the textile strike area as dynamite wrecked the home of Mack Elliott a former mechanic at the American Glanitol plant. Elliott a union leader seeking recognition at the Clantzoff plant, was not at home. Two weeks earlier dynamite damaged his automobile.
Builders wrecked the front of the Precio Fijo store and are adding a modern front and extending the walls back forty feet. The property, leased to the Lellan chain for thirty years, will host one of their stores in this city once their home is finished.
West Texas expects mostly cloudy nights and Saturday with cooler panhandle. East Texas remains cloudy with showers in the northwest tonight, and showers possible in the north Saturday as conditions continue.
The week featured highs around 100 degrees on Saturday and Monday with a low of 3 last Friday. Mean max 93 and min 68 yield a weekly mean of 80. Cloudy skies with rain threats produced only traces at the local bureau, while stronger showers fell north of Del Rio toward San Angelo.
