City secretary Gelb announced no change to the minimum water allowance for Del Rio residents. The base rate remains one dollar fifty cents for the first sixteen thousand gallons, with overages billed at four tenths of a cent per thousand gallons. A special contract allows up to twenty thousand gallons monthly for a flat rate, with excess charged at the higher rate.
C. B. Wardlaw, president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, returned from a tour of wool and mar e warehouses in West and Central Texas. He visited Rockmenard Eden San Saba and Lampasas in the association drive to boost wool and goat buying.
Two Chinese visitors Miss Jacqueline Terry and Miss Alice Bryan join Texas State College for Women students in using amateur radio to contact family abroad. Amateur operator Travis Tittle notes a rush of messages sent to receivers worldwide with replies expected the next day.
Optimism for Del Rio oil development grows after WP Trapneil, a Midland engineer, visits the Jones and Patterson test well. Leases cover about 14 700 acres on the MN and Felix Harrison ranch, 54 miles north of Del Rio, with favorable showings as drilling begins. The site sits near a 434 foot water well that has seeped oil daily for three years. Washington report notes Congress may adjourn after summer amid neutrality disputes with Pittman’s plan to allow belligerents to buy war supplies for cash and ships.
Four local home economics pupils Evelyn Anderson Leila Johnson Johnny Mae Plemons and Grace Munsey attended the twentieth annual Future Homemakers of Texas rally in Galveston with instructor Miss Ocie Belle Jordan. They earned top ratings in the publicity scrapbook and writing contest, enjoyed a banquet boat trip with entertainment, and visited the University of Texas campus and state capitol on the return.
In Atlantic City on May 8 Senator Arthur Vandenberg urged the United States to avoid foreign entanglements and moral sides in European conflicts. He warned involvement could lead to dictatorship and said America must first secure real jobs at real wages, focusing on democracy at home rather than policing the world.

Fair tonight and Tuesday for Del Rio and nearby areas. Yesterday's high reached 97 degrees with a 69 degree low. This morning's low was 60 degrees as conditions trend warmer later in the week.
J Barrett of Comstock reported selling 3,000 mutton lambs at 6 cents per pound last week. Lambs will be shipped to Alpine country on May 25.
Fencing right of way on Highway 85 in Kinney County will start Tuesday morning. Del Rio Chamber of Commerce manager Jas C Netts announced after a meeting with Kinney County judge Robert Bibb and WPA official Fred W Lilly. The project uses Eagle Pass WPA labor with Maverick County transport. The new route will cut about a mile to Eagle Pass and remove several sharp curves at Pinto Creek. Superintendent J E White will oversee fencing work. Credit for progress goes to Maverick County Commissioners Court and the Del Rio Chamber highway committee led by W S Stevenson.
Two new Boy Scout troops will be organized with an adult leader training course at First Christian Church at 7 30 Tuesday evening. The Border Patrol will sponsor one troop under Aubrey S Hudson and the Laymen's League of the church the other under Aubrey Walker. Paul Ireland urged all scouting men to attend.
Mrs. Willie B. Whitehead of Del Rio, president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' Association auxiliary, announced that wool samples from the Queen Elizabeth gown will be exhibited in Del Rio. She organized displays for Texas wool regions and corrected the source to Del Rio and San Angelo areas, via information from Mrs. Robert M. Jackson.
Visitors included Dr J S Plaskett of Canada and Dr Joaquin Gallo of Mexico at the UT McDonald Observatory dedication. Also present were Dr Bertil Lindbrand of Sweden Dr E A Milne of Oxford and Dr J Hobort of Leiden Observatory noted for galactic rotation work.
The archdiocesan Catholic Youth Organization drew up by-laws at a cen tral Catholic High School rally in San Antonio. About 800 attendees from across the diocese planned biannual meetings with all day events and sessions. Archbishop Crossaerts spoke as his health improved after a nine month illness.
D P Reardon head of the Intermediate Credit Corporation of Houston visited Del Rio on Monday as a business guest.
Del Rio Independent School District will display student exhibits in all schools this Friday. Parents are invited to visit classes at 2 30 pm and view room displays. Primary classes dismiss at 2 30 pm while schools stay open 8 00 pm to 9 00 pm with tea and coffee offered in the Home Economics Cottage. Student Council members at Del Rio High School will guide visitors.
Band Sponsors plan a Moore Park event Thursday to raise money for this school year’s band uniforms. A noon parade precedes a 4 30 pm supper with swimming bingo and a wheel of fortune. Tickets are sold by band members and sponsors.
J M Lea buys A A Baker clip of 25 900 pounds at 26 cents a pound through Producers Wool and Mohair Co Wardlaw announces the new peak. A sealed bid sale at the Roddie warehouse Braciv set the prior high at 2542 cents. A 25 000 pound lambs sale to Jack Allison for Munro Kincaid Endgehill Inc reported from San Angelo.
Emmett Greif a 16 year old Del Rio High School senior, placed fourth in the 880 yard run at the University Interscholastic League track meet in Austin. The winner from Jefferson Davis High School ran 2 01, Greif 2 05 5 in a photo finish.
Fr Theo Francis OM, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, with Albert Johnson and Eugene Heep, leaves Sunday for a Knights of Columbus convention in naco. The event runs Monday to Wednesday with a Tuesday banquet featuring Deputy Supreme Knight Francis P. Matthews of Omaha as principal speaker.
In Osceola Indiana on May 8 a theft targeted Prank Link. The suspect stole a $50 granite monument from Link’s stung works, police said. The thief faces charges as investigators pursue leads.
